Predictions and Previews: AEW Worlds End (12/30/23)

AEW Worlds End Match Card Graphic

We have the inaugural AEW Worlds End and a loaded card to go with it! Kicking off with Zero Hour, we’ll see a twenty-man battle royal where the winner will be rewarded a TNT Championship match anytime, anyplace. Also, on Zero Hour, Hook looks to defend the FTW Championship against ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta. Wheeler’s fellow Blackpool Combat Club members Claudio Castagnoli and Bryan Danielson team up with Mark Briscoe and Daniel Garcia to take on Brody King, Jay White, Jay Lethal, and Rush.

Swerve Strickland looks to finish business with Keith Lee and use it to keep his momentum rolling into 2024. AEW World Tag Team Champions Big Bill and Ricky Starks team up with The Don Callis Family’s Konosuke Takeshita and Powerhouse Hobbs to take on Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Darby Allin, and Sting! Julia Hart and Abadon continue to wage war with each other as they face off again for Hart’s AEW TBS Championship.

With Andrade El Idolo no longer participating in the Continental Classic, he will go toe to toe with the jealous Miro! “Timeless” Toni Storm looks to earn a standing ovation and retain her AEW Women’s World Championship against former champion Riho. We will take a deeper dive into the TNT Championship as Christian Cage looks to once again defend his belt against former friend Adam Copeland.

After that, we will focus on the end of the inaugural Continental Classic as Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston battle to be crowned the round-robin tournament’s first champion and AEW’s first triple crown. Finally, we shall look at the AEW World Championship between defending Champion MJF and challenger Samoa Joe, with The Devil in wait.

Can Eddie Kingston finally overcome Jon Moxley?

Since Eddie Kingston placed his ROH World Championship and New Japan Strong Openweight Title on the line for this tournament, many were sure he would make it to the final. He faced early adversity with back-to-back losses to Brody King and Bryan Danielson. It seemed he might lose the titles he had worked so hard to gain. “The Mad King” battled back, winning his last three matches to rematch Danielson in the semi-finals. He earned his first win over “The American Dragon” to secure his spot in the finals.

Unlike his opponent, Jon Moxley only lost one match during the round-robin tournament. Though he faced a tough test in the semi-final facing Jay White and Swerve Strickland, the former AEW World Champion emerged victorious. Now these former friends collide, a win for Moxley solidifies he’s still All Elite’s Ace, and a win for Kingston shows he’s finally realizing his potential.

These men have battled each other throughout their careers, and Moxley has always emerged victorious. However, Kingston has proven he is not the same man who can’t win the big one; he’s at his peak, and he will win.

Prediction: Eddie Kingston makes history

Cage vs. Copeland…who will walk away with the TNT Championship?

Adam Copeland faces not just Christian Cage. He faces the rest of The Patriarchy in Killswitch, Nick Wayne, and the newly minted “The Matriarch” Mother Wayne. This is only their seventh one-on-one encounter; though Cage has the more recent victory, Copeland still has the edge (see what I did there) with four wins to two.

Though I want to see Christian walk away with the TNT Championship and continue to be the role model father we all need, I see Copeland picking up the win. With the no disqualification stipulation, it would seem to favor the champion, but I believe his “right hand of destruction” in Killswitch will turn face and help Adam pick up the win.

Prediction: Copeland picks up the win, and Cage learns he needs to discipline his children more

Is this truly the end or simply the beginning?

I do not see how MJF can retain the championship against Samoa Joe. He’s injured, The Devil has seemingly made a deal with Samoa Joe, and Joe looks to be as monstrous as ever! Regardless of who leaves with the AEW World Championship, I can’t help but feel this is just the beginning.

I do not mean we’ll see more anonymous Devil hijinks; I think Adam Cole finally removes the mask and ends the bromance we all came to know and love. No, this is the beginning of a new war for MJF. Provided the current champion has signed a new deal, this has the potential to cause a shift in everyone’s favorite scumbag.

Almost every move MJF made in his ascension was self-serving and centered around gaining the belt he now holds. Once he loses the belt, especially if it’s due to his best friend betraying him, we’ll see an MJF motivated not by success but by revenge! I’m not saying it will make up for all of the missteps of “The Devil” so far. We will see the start of a war between former best friends and one that doesn’t require the AEW World Championship.

Preview: Samoa Joe wins the AEW World Championship, and Adam Cole reveals himself as The Devil
