Preview: AEW Rampage (08/04/23) – Blackpool Combat Club vs. Best Friends, Parking Lot Fight

All Elite Wrestling continues its foray at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. Previously known as the USF Sun Dome, which housed not only WWE’s ThunderDome for a few months but also the 1995 Royal Rumble.

Where Shawn Michaels famously won said match starting at #1 and going coast to coast and eliminating #2 entrant British Bulldog after only one foot touched the floor and pulling himself back in to win it all. However, not all of AEW Rampage is taking place in this venue. As we get the second instance of AEW pre-taping a match of sorts elsewhere. As they did with The Firm Deletion a few months ago.

Return Of  A Classic

Notable during AEW Dynamite’s 200th episode video celebration were a lot of highlights of a very memorable match. That was The Proud N’ Powerful, Ortiz and Santana vs. The Best Friends at the September 16th, 2020 edition of AEW Dynamite in the main event. A Parking Lot Fight. It was foreshadowing.

As later in the evening, Chuck Taylor challenged Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley of the Blackpool Combat Club to a Parking Lot Fight at Daily’s Place. The first one was seen by many as one of the best matches in Dynamite for 2020.

So it’s a very high bar for the two teams to clear. Though The Best Friends already have the experience of winning the first one. While Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley….. Well, Mox is capable of anything. And has not slowed down at all in the hardcore department since Blood & Guts.

Limitless Hardys

The Hardys have their first full match since before the Canadian tour with Matt and Jeff Hardy teaming up with ‘Limitless’ Keith Lee to take on the trio of The Butcher, The Blade, and their handler, Kip Sabian, accompanied by Penelope Ford. It seems that coming out of last week’s battle royal, the Hardy’s seem to have caught the ire of Jeff Jarrett’s crew as they have a scuffle this week on Dynamite. So we may likely see some follow-up on that front.

Women’s Action

Anna Jay A.S. and Skye Blue are your seemingly designated women’s match for AEW Rampage this week. This is actually a rematch from the two facing off at the June 21st edition of AEW Rampage. Where Skye Blue defeated Anna Jay. The two also had a dark match on last week’s set of tapings too. So they’ve been facing off quite a bit recently.

Skye Blue has been very popular lately. But has not been on the winning side of things these past few weeks. Let’s see if that can turn around or if Anna Jay can put some respect back into the Jericho Appreciation Society amid Chris Jericho’s crisis of conscience.

All that, plus Swerve Strickland and AR Fox are set for tag team action, representing The Mogul Embassy after they all attacked Nick Wayne at the Buddy Wayne Wrestling Academy and then called Darby Allin to rub it in. Will we see any fallout from that attack? All that and more tonight on AEW Rampage.
