Preview: AEW Rampage (07/21/23) – The Return of Royal Rampage

A graphic highlighting the card for AEW Rampage.

It’s Friday and you know what that means! It’s AEW Rampage! However, there’s a bit of a twist. After this week’s Blood and Guts edition of AEW Dynamite, it was taped, so there are two rings. Back for a second year, it’s the Royal Rampage.

The show was taped at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The sight of none other than WrestleMania 14. Back then, it was known as the FleetCenter. The building launched the Austin era and is the informal start of WWF’s hottest period, The Attitude Era.

Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Shawn Michaels in the main event, with the aid of ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, to win his first of six WWF Championships and launch the then World Wrestling Federation into the stratosphere.

The Royal Rampage

A long list of AEW alumni steps into the two rings. Last year, the winner got a shot at interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley on TV. It was won by Brody King. This year, the prize is different, but on a higher stage. The winner receives a TNT Championship match at All Out this coming August 30th. Meaning we will have our first match set for the event. Here is the list of participants announced including one visiting from Japan:

  1. Swerve Strickland
  2. Jeff Jarrett
  3. Jay Lethal
  4. Big Bill
  5. Jake Hager
  6. ‘Cool Hand Ang’ Angelo Parker
  7. ‘Daddy Magic’ Matt Menard
  8. ROH 6 Man Tag Team Champion Bishop Kaun
  9. ROH 6 Man Tag Team Champion Brian Cage
  10. ROH 6 Man Tag Team Champion Toa Liona
  11. Matt Sydal
  12. Brother Zay
  13. Ethan Page
  14. Matt Hardy
  15. Darby Allin
  16. Nick Wayne
  17. The Butcher
  18. The Blade
  19. Komander
  20. Minoru Suzuki

TBS Championship Open Challenge

Kris Statlander has an open challenge for her TBS Championship set. She defends against someone who challenged many times but has yet to win the TBS Championship in ‘The Problem’ Marina Shafir. These two did meet once. It was on an episode of AEW Dark on March 12, 2021. Statlander was able to defeat Shafir in that match as well. Can the fortune change as Shafir goes into her third attempt at the TBS Championship?

One Last Stop Before The Acclaimed Are Golden

The Acclaimed has been chasing The House of Black for a rematch since Double or Nothing. However, they hit a snag along the way in QTV. The group’s female associate Harley Cameron has had…. Interesting interactions with The Acclaimed. Ranging from trying to flirt with Anthony Bowens in a rather memorable moment, to filming a diss track and music video against them.

On this week’s AEW Rampage, Aaron Solo, Johnny TV, and QT Marshall are set to take on the trio of Anthony Bowens, ‘Platinum’ Max Caster, and ‘Daddy Ass’ Billy Gunn one day before The Acclaimed gets their rematch. What if QTV manages the upset? Or perhaps The Acclaimed will scissor their way to another win and the title match? All that and more tonight on AEW Rampage.
