Preview: AEW Rampage (07/07/23) – The 100th Episode

A match graphic for the 100th episode of AEW Rampage.

All Elite Wrestling is in the middle point of their extensive tour of the central provinces of Canada. This week they head west to Edmonton, Alberta. Roger’s Place for another edition of AEW Rampage. A newer venue that opened its doors in 2016. WWE visited the venue for the September 26th edition of Monday Night Raw where Matt Riddle defeated Damian Priest in the main event.

As for AEW, their second weekly televised program reaches the 100-episode mark this week after first airing on August 13, 2021. Of course, the second episode, titled ‘The First Dance,” would be the debut of CM Punk at the United Center in what was a truly magical moment in professional wrestling. The show has changed over the two years.

Notably shifting from AEW’s attempt at a second major program to now becoming a more experimental show that will see inter-promotional matches, Ring Of Honor interplay, and some more experimental match types. Let’s preview this week’s 100th episode edition of AEW Rampage.

BTE Drama Rematch

The major match heading into the 100th episode of AEW Rampage is a rematch from AEW Dynamite a few weeks ago. When the trio of The Young Bucks and “Hangman” Adam Page issued an open challenge, it was accepted by Alex Reynolds, John Silver, and Evil Uno. The Dark Order. Owing to their friendship with Hangman Page, he and the Young Bucks did not take the challenge seriously.

But The Dark Order responded, noting Page’s lack of communication with them when his feud with Jon Moxley wound up involving the rest of the Blackpool Combat Club and a reunion with The Elite. The two trios are set to tussle yet again. At the end of Dynamite this week, as Page was getting set to use a steel chair against the Blackpool Combat Club, The Dark Order appeared and grabbed it. As if they refuted his being influenced by The Elite yet again. How will the drama play out? Let’s find out.

A Problem For Shida?

Former AEW Women’s World Champion, Hikaru Shida, is set for action. As she goes one on one with “The Problem” Marina Shafir. A rematch from AEW Dark on November 10 last year, where Shida was victorious. These two have not really faced each other apart from that match much. Having a tag team and trios match in between. This will be their first major singles match on TV. An interesting match-up as the former MMA fighter clashes with the standout of the independent Joshi wrestling scene.

The Blind Eliminator Tournament Rolls On

Will we get brackets for it? Who knows. But the tournament that came out of nowhere as an odd tribute to CMLL’s annual “Parejas Increibles” tournament makes it to Friday nights.

As we get two more Quarterfinal matches. First, the tandem of “Who would’ve guessed it?!” Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia. The two members of the Jericho Appreciation Society that seemed to not get along since day one. They pair up to face Matt and Jeff. Well, not exactly The Hardys.

That’s Matt Hardy and the other Jeff in AEW. The returning Jeff Jarrett. Matt Hardy is no stranger to pairing up with other people besides his brother. Even with people he hates. Such as MVP back in 2007. Even winning Tag Team gold. So, despite him expressing his hatred of Jeff Jarrett, the veterans have a big advantage despite their opponents representing the same faction.

The second Quarterfinal match announced is a not-so-farfetched tandem. As Matt Sydal and Trent Beretta team up. Two standouts of the independents that had stints in the WWE at around the same time and also worked in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Jr. Tag Team division at the same time.

They’ll be facing two guys you’d be surprised to learn haven’t worked together in Big Bill and one-third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions, Brian Cage. So we have a tandem of two Jr. Heavyweight’s facing off against two former Impact! main eventers known for their imposing brute force and surprising athleticism.

All that and more as AEW Rampage celebrates 100 episodes tonight on TNT.
