Ricky Morton Returns to GCW
With the news that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express Farewell Tour will begin on January 22, long-time wrestling fans will have their sights set on what the legendary Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson will do next. While the team’s final match has yet to be announced, Morton’s next step will be taken at GCW Don’t Talk to Me. The former multi-time Smoky Mountain Wrestling and National Wrestling Alliance tag team titleholder makes his Game Changer Wrestling return, having last appeared at Sanctified, where he teamed with Axton Ray and son Kerry Morton in a winning effort against Chris Hamrick, Billie Starkz, and Jordan Oliver this past August. Morton’s return match will be anything but a cakewalk, however. He will take on the technically sound and fiercely competitive Tony Deppen. Given how hungry Deppen has been for success, not only in GCW but elsewhere, expect him to give one-half of the most legendary tag teams of all time a victory he’ll have to work for.
A Lucha Libre Experience at GCW Don’t Talk to Me
El Hijo del Vikingo has been regarded as one of the most promising lucha libre stars today. While he’s been wrestling since the early 2010s, it wasn’t until the last year or so that he started to see his greatest success. For context, it was in December of last year that he captured the AAA Mega Championship, besting four other competitors at TripleMania Regia. Since then, Vikingo successfully defended Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s top title against such names as Laredo Kid, Aramis, and current All Elite Wrestling star Rey Fenix. Furthermore, Vikingo became a semi-regular competitor for Game Changer Wrestling over the past year, wowing fans with his high-flying, innovative offense. This Friday, he takes on his latest challenge in the veteran luchador known as Gringo Loco. Regardless of who emerges from this match victorious, this has the potential to steal the show.
The Tag Team Titles Will Be Defended
In title contention will be Los Macizos, the duo of Ciclope and Miedo Extremo, who are walking into Cabarrus Arena as the GCW Tag Team Champions. Whether they leave said venue with the gold remains to be seen, though given their track record since regaining the titles for the third time, it’s a safe bet that Los Macizos remain champions. With that said, their challengers at GCW Don’t Talk to Me can’t be overlooked. Enter The Ugly Ducklings, represented by Lance Lude and Rob Killjoy. Since the mid-2010s, they’ve captured tag team gold across a number of independent organizations, Premiere Wrestling Xperience, Rockstar Pro Wrestling, and New York Championship Wrestling being just a few examples. Wearing their signature mallard masks, The Ugly Ducklings have captured the attention of fans the country over. Will fan support bring them toward another tag team title victory this Friday?
GCW Don’t Talk to Me will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 20, 2023.
