#AndNEW: Claudio Castagnoli Recaptures ROH World Championship

Claudio Castagnoli recaptured the Ring of Honor (ROH) World Championship. He defeated Chris Jericho to become champion with the stakes being high for both men. The ending of the match was unique as Jericho tapped out while being in the signature swing move of Claudio.

Claudio Castagnoli Recaptures ROH World Championship at Final Battle

This match has been very personal. Claudio won the title at Death Before Dishonor where he defeated Jonathan Gresham. He lost the title to Chris Jericho at AEW Grand Slam following a low blow from Jericho to Castagnoli. Claudio who has a well-documented history with ROH was disappointed in himself that he could not retain the title.

Following Jericho’s win over Tomohiro Ishii, Chris Jericho gloated that no one could take the ROH Championship away from him. This drew the attention of Claudio who explained that he knew he could beat Jericho. Jericho then laid out the challenge for Final Battle. If Claudio couldn’t beat Jericho tonight he would have been forced to join the Jericho Appreciation Society and become a “Sports Entertainer”.

Claudio Castagnoli did come out victorious, however, winning the ROH World Championship for the second time in his career. This also means he will stay a part of the Blackpool Combat Club alongside Wheeler Yuta, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley. Claudio is also a former two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion alongside Chris Hero.

As Ring of Honor closes out 2022, Claudio will head into 2023 holding the most important prize in Ring of Honor.
