AEW Dynamite Ratings, Viewership and Demo (9/28/22): Nothing Like Losing to the Weather Channel

Having only announced a few matches in advance, AEW ratings for Dynamite failed to deliver a big number. The post-Grand Slam Dynamite didn’t attract as many viewers as recent weeks as ratings dipped and the show fell below 1M viewers for the first time in over a month. Dynamite only drew 990,000 viewers, marking the show’s lowest such total since an August 17th episode that drew just over 950,000. The dip below 1M ends AEW’s five straight weeks hitting six digits, their second-longest such streak in company history. Dynamite’s weekly number of 990,000 is also 162,000 shy of what AEW did for last year’s Grand Slam fall out show. Let’s take a deeper dive into the numbers for this week’s Dynamite.

AEW Ratings – Dynamite Rating and Viewership Data for September 28, 2022

As reported by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite had a total of under one million viewers for the first time since August. According to ITN, this ends a five-week run of Dynamite topping one million viewers. It is somewhat surprising to see this streak come to an end for the Grand Slam fall out show as AEW promoted three major matches in advance: Toni Storm vs Serena Deeb for the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship, Jon Moxley vs Juice Robinson in a title eliminator match, and Chris Jericho vs Bandido in Jericho’s first defense as Ring of Honor World Champion. This is the second week in a row AEW’s numbers have declined as this week saw AEW lose 49,000 viewers following a drop of 136,000 from the week before.

In all, Dynamite managed to secure a 0.34 P18-49 demo rating, which was just a slight tick below last week’s 0.35. That number was good enough for ninth best on cable. Though, that isn’t as bad as it sounds as six of the remaining eight slots all went to…The Weather Channel…Ordinarily, losing to the Weather Channel might be alarming, but with Hurricane Ian dominating the news cycle for much of this week, it makes sense that a fair share of storm chasers and storm preparers would be tuning in to the round-the-clock coverage. The only non-Weather Channel cable programming that topped Dynamite was a Spanish-language program, La Herencia, Un Legado de Amor, on Univision, and Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News.

AEW Dynamite on September 28th featured the Jericho Appreciation Society‘s championship celebration, Jericho vs Bandido for the ROH title, Bryan Danielson vs Matt Menard, Ricky Starks vs Eli Isom, Toni Storm vs Serena Deeb in a lumberjack match for the interim women’s title, Jon Moxley vs Juice Robinson, promos from Wheeler Yuta and Saraya, and an appearance by MJF, who once again sat in a sky box to watch Moxley’s match.
