Jon Moxley has successfully unified the AEW World Championship tonight on AEW Dynamite. He defeated CM Punk, in Moxley’s home state of Ohio to become the undisputed champion.

CM Punk originally won the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing in May of 2022. He defeated Hangman Adam Page in the main event to become champion. He was unable to defend the championship as an injury took him out of action. The Dynamite following Double or Nothing Punk competed in a trios match alongside FTR. He was then scheduled to wrestle Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door.
Two days later on Rampage Punk announced he would be sidelined to rehab an injury. Instead of stripping him of the title, a tournament to crown an Interim Champion was set. Jon Moxley won the tournament and defended the Interim Championship on multiple occasions. Punk returned a couple of weeks ago on Dynamite to help Moxley during a beat down from the Jericho Appreciation Society. The alliance was short-lived as last week the two had to be separated multiple times. The unification match was moved up from All Out in September to this week on Dynamite.
This is now the second formal reign as AEW World Champion for Jon Moxley. The match was relatively short as Moxley took advantage of Punk’s recently injured foot. Punk hit a roundhouse kick with the injured foot on Moxley which did more damage to Punk than Moxley. Moxley than hit the Paradigm Shift for the win.
