The all-female wrestling promotion, Women of Wrestling (WOW for short) is now officially coming to television in the month of September. The company put out a press release on August 2, announcing in it that the “world’s premier all-female sports entertainment entity”, will become a national television product starting the weekend of September 17th with distribution via Paramount that will see WOW “cleared in 100% of the United States.” They’ve also secured licensing deals beyond just the domestic market, with deals in Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

“From sports to politics to business and beyond, women’s voices are being heard louder than ever, and the Superheroes of WOW couldn’t be more excited to step into the ring on Sept. 17 and join this revolution,” said WOW owner Jeanie Buss. “We’re grateful to our partners at Paramount Global Content Distribution for providing a platform for these inspiring athletes.”

Women of Wrestling has existed in multiple incarnations going back to the turn of the millennium in 2000. It was founded by the same man who founded Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW for short) back in the 80s. The first iteration of WOW ran for 25 TV episodes and a single Pay-Per-View. The promotion would be revived a couple more times in the 2010s, with reruns on YouTube and the CW, even getting two new seasons on AXS TV, but ultimately was canceled in June 2020.

Just a little over one year after its AXS axing, ViacomCBS announced a multi-year agreement with WOW that would see the company distribute new episodes on over 150 US TV stations. Retired women’s wrestler and multi-time champion, AJ Mendez (also known as AJ Lee in WWE) will be serving on the promotion’s creative team, as both executive producer and color commentator.
