Originally slated to wrestle in the main event of Orlando “Primo” Colón’s Puerto Rico-based promotion, Latin American Wrestling Entertainment, Santana’s status for the event fell into question following his participation in AEW’s Blood & Guts match last week. Originally, Santana was slated to defend the LAWE Championship against #1 Contender, Pedro Portillo III.

In what was slated to be the first defense of the title after he won it on May 21 at LAWE’s ‘Cima de Campeones’ (Peak Of Champions) event in a three-way final of a tournament to crown the first Champion. Santana was originally not supposed to participate in the tournament to crown an inaugural champion, but after a few wrestlers had to bow out for various reasons, he was announced as its final participant. Santana defeated the now-former NWA Tag Team Champion, Mecha Wolf, in a semi-final match, before defeating Portillo & Mendoza in the final after those two went to a DQ tie in their own semi-final.

On LAWE’s Facebook page, the company released its latest “Update” vlog where it was announced that Santana is still slated to appear on upcoming shows. However, due to the injury sustained in AEW’s Blood & Guts, he would not be able to wrestle for what was described as “several months”. It was also announced that he would be addressing the crowd at the show, which could potentially see him vacating the championship.  No details about what injury he has sustained were disclosed.

Santana first competed for LAWE at the company’s second event ‘Ascendencia’ on February 19. Wrestling in the main event alongside Ortiz against the then NWA Tag Team Champions, Mecha Wolf & Bestia 666, La Rebelión. Since then, Santana has participated in 4 of the 5 following LAWE events as a singles wrestler and as part of the tournament to crown the first LAWE Champion. The company has focused on his roots on the island and how despite his success worldwide, he has not really done much in Puerto Rico until this run in LAWE.
