Hiromu Takahashi defeated El Desperado on Friday in the finals of Best of the Super Juniors 29, winning the coveted junior heavyweight tournament for a record third-straight time. The match lasted over 30 minutes before Takahashi was able to put away Desperado for the victory.

NJPW BOSJ 29: Hiromu Takahashi Pulls Off Three-Peat

Hiromu Takahashi earned the opportunity to go for the three-peat when he won the A Block by defeating reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori on the final day of BOSJ action. He also defeated former winner Ryusuke Taguchi, Francesco Akira, IMPACT X-Division Champion Ace Austin, Alex Zayne, and Clark Connors. The three losses came in a row in the middle of the tournament as Yoshinobu Kanemaru made Takahashi’s leg the target of his attack, beating him in less than seven minutes. This destruction of the leg allowed YOH and SHO both to take advantage to gain wins over “The Ticking Timebomb.”

With the tournament win, Takahashi is now set to face Ishimori for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Dominion, which is on Sunday, June 12 in Osaka. They will likely be in the semi-main event with Kazuchika Okada defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Jay White set in the main event.
