The 2022 Royal Rumble event featured the WWE Championship match pitting champion Brock Lesnar against challenger Bobby Lashley. This feud has been well-documented, not only on TV programming but through the paths that both men took to reach success in professional wrestling and elsewhere. This one-on-one encounter was highly anticipated by many fans. Both men were at the top of their game, carving separate paths of dominance en route to this event. Ultimately, Bobby Lashley proved himself to be the better man on this night, capturing the WWE Championship for the second time.

Bobby Lashley Recaptures WWE Championship at Royal Rumble
What to Know Following “The All Mighty’s” Title Victory
“The All Mighty” wasn’t without assistance in this title match, however. With the referee temporarily incapacitated, Universal Champion Roman Reigns rushed the ring, attacking Lesnar with a Spear. Reigns then turned his sights to Paul Heyman, who slowly handed Lesnar’s WWE Championship to “The Tribal Chief.” Reigns proceeded to attack Lesnar with the title. This allowed Lashley to pick up the victory and, more importantly, the WWE Championship. Reigns left ringside with Heyman, the two seemingly on the same page once more.
Bobby Lashley will leave this year’s Royal Rumble event as a 2x WWE Champion. He first captured the gold on the March 3, 2021 episode of Monday Night Raw, besting The Miz in a Lumberjack Match that went a little over 3 minutes. Lashley went on to have multiple successful title defenses, examples including defeating Drew McIntyre on Night One of WrestleMania 37 and besting Goldberg at last year’s SummerSlam due to referee stoppage. Lashley would lose the title the following September on Raw when Big E successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity.

It’s worth noting that, during the Royal Rumble kickoff show, Booker T spoke as a member of the panel. Viewers noticed that he let slip that Lesnar could be a competitor for the Men’s Royal Rumble contest. Whether this is true remains to be seen, as of this writing. However, if it proves to be the case, “The Beast” could end the evening with a victory under this belt, challenging either Lashley or Roman Reigns for world title gold at WrestleMania 38 this April.
