The stakes were high for Ishii going into this match. If Ishii did not defeat White tonight, he would not have been able to challenge for the belt ever again. This is Ishii’s sixth reign as the NEVER Openweight Champion. He is also a former NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship and former IWJP Tag Team Champion.

Jay White defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestling Dontaku to win the title in May of this year. His only successful defense was against David Finlay at Resurgence earlier this year. This was only his second defense of the belt.

Ishii will have a busy week as he prepares to make his AEW debut. It was announced earlier today at Full Gear that Ishii would head to Dynamite this Wednesday. Ishii will team with Orange Cassidy who is now a member of CHAOS. They will take on The Butcher and The Blade in tag action.

Ishii will make his AEW debut as the NEVER Openweight Champion. Stay tuned to Last Word on Sports for more updates on his AEW debut as they become available.
