Bron Breakker Proves Why Rebrand For NXT was the Right Move

Bron Breakker WWE NXT 2.0

When NXT was set to undergo a rebrand from the “super indie” back to a more traditional developmental scene, fans around professional wrestling worried about what the future would hold. After all, NXT had been the home of countless moments through the years and became its own alternative to the likes of Raw and SmackDown. But over the last two years, it has gone from being that alternative to a brand in need of a new identity after going on USA Network. All Elite Wrestling (AEW) supplanted NXT as the one true alternative to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was a sad but real truth that NXT needed something of a shake-up and that’s what NXT 2.0 has become. The question, however, is if it has been working thus far. The answer is simple — Bron Breakker.

The seismic shift of what NXT was in the dark and gloomy work rate-focused brand to the paint-splattered, upbeat version we see now can be judged on what Breakker has already become. When the decision was made to become a real developmental once again, it was focusing on the new talents who might be as green as can be but become legitimate WWE superstars in the eyes of Vince McMahon. Breakker is the definition of what the brand’s intention is and has shown that this was the correct move time and time again.

It hasn’t taken long for WWE or its fans to realize Bron Breakker is much more than just a “Genetic Freak.” In his fourth ever match and first-ever championship match, Breakker showed the heart and ability to be great — in the eyes of Vince McMahon and company than many of the talents that they have received out of NXT over the last five years. That’s not a shot at the incredible talent but more so just a showing of WWE going back to its roots. After all, Roman Reigns is someone who has the same background as Breakker, coming from college football and having family ties to the business itself. All of it makes too much sense and furthers the vision that they have in Breakker.

WWE isn’t waiting either when it comes to letting Breakker grow outside of the Performance Center and NXT 2.0. He is heading over to the United Kingdom as part of the SmackDown brand alongside NXT Champion and rival Tommaso Ciampa to compete. Four matches into his career and he’s already perceived as a draw for their shows. Once again, that’s telling to what they already see in him.

For every moment that is cringeworthy and matches that have no business being on cable TV, fans have to remember the purpose of NXT 2.0 with Breakker being the shining star of it all. They have quickly made a cornerstone of the company and someone that can believably be a WrestleMania main eventer. The last male NXT-grown talent from prior classes to be in the main event of WrestleMania was Roman Reigns who has FCW ties. Without FCW ties, there isn’t one on the men’s side. Bianca Belair is the one to look at.

That might show problems with NXT or those who make the decisions, but that’s a problem no matter what way you put it. The goal of NXT 2.0 was to create superstars and that’s what it is doing now. There will be plenty of misses along the way but for every Bron Breakker that is created, the more you can believe that this was the right move for WWE moving forward.

Bron Breakker is the future of WWE and all the proof that is needed to show that NXT 2.0 was the right move for the company’s future.
