Preview: Gatoh Move ChocoPro #168 (10/30/21) – Best Bros Defend the Gold

ChocoPro 168

For the first time since July, the Asia Dream Tag Team Championship will be on the line. The reigning champions have been hungry for challengers, believing that they have bested every team set in front of them. It’s easy to see why Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling’s tag team titleholders have been so confident. However, on the horizon waits a team that they’ve taken on earlier in the year. However, with time comes experience and the challengers may be that much more difficult to overcome. Without any further delay, let’s take a deeper dive into ChocoPro #168.

Asia Dream Tag Team Championship: Best Bros (Mei Suruga and Baliyan Akki) (c) vs. Egg Tarts (Chie Koishikawa and Hagane Shinnou)

If there’s one team that can be considered the most dominant in Gatoh Move, it would have to be Best Bros. Since winning the Asia Dream tag team titles on the cusp of the New Year, Mei Suruga and Baliyan Akki have been nigh unstoppable as a team. This isn’t to say that roadblocks haven’t been encountered, however. On the previous episode of ChocoPro, Akki teamed with Tokiko Kirihara in a losing effort against Masahiro Takanashi and Chon Shiryu. Akki knew that a loss of this nature wouldn’t suffice, making him all the more motivated heading into ChocoPro #168.

Mei Suruga had better luck than her partner on ChocoPro #167, however. In singles action, “The Apple Girl” took on “Too Much Energy” Chie Koishikawa in the main event. This was a spirited match that went over 18 minutes. Despite “Chiezo’s” best efforts, it was “Mei-chan” that came away with the victory. Matters only worsened on that show’s janken tournament; Koishikawa came so close to the finals, only to lose there as well. Koishikawa’s lack of success, over the past several months, has been well documented. It hasn’t done much to break her spirit over the long term, however, making her that much more endearing to fans. In fact, one can argue that she feels confident heading into ChocoPro #168, given the caliber of partner she’s chosen.

Hagane Shinnou’s team with Koishikawa has become among the fan-favorite duos on ChocoPro. Shinnou’s stoic, understated demeanor and Koishikawa’s “Endless Energy” creates a unique contrast, which is further bolstered by their different in-ring styles. Simply put, while Koishikawa relies more on speed and trickery, Shinnou focuses on brutal strikes. This won’t be the first time Egg Tarts challenge for the Asia Dream Tag Team Champion, as they were unsuccessful on ChocoPro #91 back in February. Egg Tarts have been steadily working their way back to the purple belts and it’s fair to assume that little will stop them now. Tune into ChocoPro #168, on the official Gatoh Move YouTube channel, to see how this high-stakes encounter unfolds.

ChocoPro #168 will air on October 30 at 10:00 AM JST (October 29 at 9:00 PM EST).
