One of the top under-20 indie wrestling stars in the United States – and the best from the West Coast crew – has been 18-year old Starboy Charlie. The California high-flyer has been wrestling professionally on the West Coast since he was just 13-years old, starting out with Gold Rush Pro Wrestling (GRPW) and All Pro Wrestling (APW). Since 2019, he’s also been a part of West Coast Pro Wrestling (WCPW), and in 2020 he broke out nationally as one of the new stars to debut with Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), appearing in a Scramble Match at January of 2020’s GCW Just Being Honest from Los Angeles.

Since then, Starboy Charlie has had singles matches in GCW against the likes of Blake Christian (NXT’s Trey Baxter), Lio Rush, Johnathan Gresham, Chris Bey, Jordan Oliver, Tony Deppen, Marko Stunt, Alex Zayne, and perhaps the 1B of under-20’s, Billie Starkz. He was also becoming a big part of GCW’s re-emerging tag team scene, where he recently paired up with a former foe in Chris Dickinson. The duo picked up their first win last weekend at GCW War Ready in Los Angeles, defeating the Polynesian Powerhouses of former Major League Wrestling (MLW) World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu (of the legendary Anoai Samoan clan) and rising West Coast star (and GCW regular) Juicy Finau. That was Starboy’s last match before taking part in Jamie Iovine‘s Halloween Hootenany PPV event in California on Tuesday night, where Starboy was taking part in a tag match alongside another West Coast star on the rise, Nick Wayne, against The West Coast Wrecking Crew (Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson). During a spot mid-match, Starboy Charlie fell back badly on his right ankle, where it became evident Charlie was badly injured. Early reports from audience members are that Starboy may have broken his ankle, but Starboy Charlie took to Twitter to confirm that he actually suffered a broken leg in the match.

The medical terms are: a spiral fracture of the distal tibial diaphysis with a 5mm lateral displacement of the distal fracture fragment.

While injuries are no strangers in the world of pro wrestling, it comes at a terribly inopportune moment for the 18-year old, who was having the U.S. indie run of his career so far with GCW and the rise of the West Coast indies this past year. Several hours prior to his match at the Halloween Hootenany, Starboy Charlie was announced by GCW as one of the starting names for the debut launch of their second auxiliary promotion, LA FIGHTS, to compliment GCW’s presence in the East Coast indies with its revamped Jersey Championship Wrestling (JCW). Both JCW and LA FIGHTS are designed to help showcase more local and regional indie talents, legends, and help their younger talents grow on both U.S. coasts, before ultimately becoming full-time regulars on the main GCW events.
