Preview: AEW Dynamite (8/18/21) – Sting Wrestles On TNT After 20 Years

Sting wrestles on TNT

The week ahead for All Elite Wrestling will be an exciting one. And, it ramps up, even more, come, AEW Dynamite, this Wednesday night. Last week was a great setup for what’s to come on this edition of AEW’s flagship show. Tensions ran high and vendettas will be carried out on this night. The AEW World Tag Team Championships will be on the line as the proud and cocky champions defend against one of the best young-up-and-coming teams the company has to offer. The fifth and final labor of revenge comes to a close as “The Salt of The Earth” stipulated a contest to spite “Le Champion” and his quest for vengeance. Last and certainly not least, A legend competes “Texas-style” once more on TNT after 20 long years of being away alongside his protege when Sting wrestles on TNT for the first time in two decades. There is much more coming your way if AEW has anything to say about it. So, sit back and relax. Dynamite is coming your way. Without further ado, let us run it down.

“The Icon” Comes Home To TNT

Darby Allin and Daniel Garcia put on one hell of a show last week on Dynamite. The two went tit for tat throughout the match exemplifying tremendous wrestling for the majority of it. The contest was an exercise in one-upmanship but was tainted by the constant interference of Jeff Parker and Matt Lee collectively known as 2.0. But, those shenanigans didn’t go on for too long as “The Icon” Sting wouldn’t take it laying down. Warding off the constant distractions and hijinks Parker and Lee would employ. Allin would pull out the victory over Garcia despite the ever-lingering presence of 2.0 throughout the match duration. Darby and Sting might’ve come out on top but it seems like they were truly frustrated enough and welcomed the opportunity to teach Jeff Parker and Matt Lee a little lesson in respect.

This leads us to this Wednesday night, in Sting’s return match to TNT after 20 years. It’s Darby Allin and Sting versus 2.0 in a “Texas Tornado Tag” match. The “Stinger” last competed on TNT programming way back in 2001 on the very last episode of World Championship Wrestling’s flagship show WCW Nitro. Going up against long-term arch-rival and fellow legend “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair. This will certainly be a treat for long-time Sting fans as their hero comes back once more on the network he called home for so many years. This one is a “can’t miss” matchup. Will 2.0 pull off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory or will Darby Allin and Sting show them the error of their ways?

No Judas, No Problem?

For as long as anyone could remember, “Judas” by Fozzy has been a staple of the aura and magnitude of Chris Jericho. AEW fans have sung along at the top of their lungs to the track whenever the “Demo God” would come out to the ring. A chorus of very powerful voices band together in pure joy to this seminal Rock track. The same could be said about Jericho’s finishing maneuver The Judas Effect. Being one of the most devastating finishers in wrestling today, fans go to shows to see Chris whip this out and knock the lights out of his opponents. But, MJF, at least for this week, will take that joy away from them out of pure spite of Chris Jericho.

In the fifth and final labor, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has banned not only the use of The Judas Effect but Chris Jericho coming out to the ring to the tune of the Judas track. Talk about pettiness at its highest. “Le Champion” jumped through every hoop and passed every labor to earn this contest. And, on Wednesday night, he has the chance to get his and once and for all have the opportunity to silence MJF. This is the culminating match we have all been waiting for. The fifth and last chapter of “The 5 Labours of Jericho”. This contest will not be a wrestling match but a downright fight. These two combatants look to absolutely annihilate each other once the bell sounds. Will MJF finally put to bed any doubt of him being the best AEW has or will Chris Jericho finally give him the beating of a lifetime?
