Potential Landing Spots For Mickie James Following WWE Release

Mickie James

On Thursday, April 15, 2021, marked the second year in a row that WWE had a major amount of releases from the company. While the likes of Samoa Joe and The IIconics surprised many, it was the release of Mickie James that may have been the least surprising. James had explained her anger in the past with not being utilized, making this release possibly ideal as she looks to continue her career. James, 41, remains confident in her ability to give to the professional wrestling world inside the ring itself, meaning she is nowhere close to being done.

Mickie James would add to any locker room. That’s a matter of fact. We saw in when she returned to WWE via NXT as she faced Asuka. Fans saw it that much more when she was paired off with Alexa Bliss. And when she is ready, there’s a great chance that multiple companies will come calling with hopes of bringing in the six-time WWE Women’s Champion and three-time IMPACT Knockouts Champion. Here’s a look at where James could fit best through potential landing spots that make the most sense.

Mickie James Potential Landing Spots

National Wrestling Alliance (NWA)

Everyone has to figure that the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) very well could be where Mickie James ends up. Of course, NWA World Champion Nick Aldis happens to be the husband of James, meaning that there is a massive connection there as is. But James would add a major name to a division that has one of her former WWE rivals in Melina. James would fit immediately into the old-school feel that is NWA, as her ability to cut promos and perform in the ring would have her flourish. The idea of her facing Thunder Rosa, Serena Deeb, or Kamille is interesting as is with the ultimate spot of being the NWA World Women’s Champion — one of few top women’s titles that have eluded her. A nearly perfect fit for James.

IMPACT Wrestling

Mickie James made herself that much bigger during her time in IMPACT Wrestling, formerly known as TNA. It was there that she worked on the persona known as “Hardcore Country.” If her plan was to bring back that version of herself and do it where she shined, a return to IMPACT Wrestling seems like the right move. Considering how IMPACT utilized another legend in Jazz recently, it shows that they are open to these kinds of situations. James has never had singles matches with their top two women’s stars — Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace. For those two matches alone, James should be intrigued by the idea of returning to IMPACT. Deonna Purrazzo versus Mickie James for the IMPACT Knockouts Championship certainly sounds like a money match.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW)

And then there is All Elite Wrestling (AEW). AEW has had a major few months in terms of signing legends who made their careers elsewhere with Paul Wight (aka Big Show) and Christian Cage being the most recent additions. However, something that some should take note of is that they have yet to really bring in a woman who has a career that spans long before and can be considered a legend. Awesome Kong and Aja Kong were both major names at the beginning of AEW, but both haven’t been included much since. Only Aja Kong has appeared through the AEW Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament. The addition of James might be the addition that helps up the growing women’s division, as she has the accolades to be a serious player immediately.

The possible first-time matches with the likes of Hikaru Shida, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., and Riho make AEW just as interesting for James as much as their other two spots.

Mickie James is in a spot of control where her addition to any roster will be of massive proportions considering her career to this point and a chance to write the final chapter in the best way possible.
