#AndNEW: Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi Win AJPW Tag Titles

Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi

All Japan Pro Wrestling is back at the start of 2021 with the New Years War tour. This tour’s major matches revolve around the two main events. Earlier today was Day One of the tour and the main event lead to Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi pulling off a major title win.

Kenyo Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi Capture AJPW World Tag Team Championships From Violent Giants

Yuma Aoyagi and Kento Miyahara won the World Tag League, defeating Jake Lee and Koji Iwamoto in the finals. After this match, Yuma Aoyagi would challenge Suwama for the Triple Crown Championship with Aoyagi also challenging for the World Tag Team Championships on the first night of New Year’s War.

Violent Giants (Suwama & Shuji Ishikawa) have dominated the tag scene for years at this point and the current run as World Tag Team Champions has been going on for over a year. They actually defeated Ryouji Sai and Zeus to become champions at last year’s New Year’s War. This reign would have 5 Title Defenses, while also being at the forefront of the rise to Suwama as Triple Crown Champion. Violent Giants vs Aoyagi & Miyahara was a preview of the upcoming Triple Crown Title Match that will happen on show number 2 of the tour.

In the main event, Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi would defeat the Violent Giants in a brutal 25+ minute Bout. Ending the over year reign of Violent Giants. One of the things to note in this title match is that match ended by a referee stoppage when Yuma tried to submit Suwama, which definitely gives him some advantage going into the upcoming title match.  It seems that the Violent Giants will no longer team together following this defeat

This is Kento Miyahara’s Third time as World Tag Champion, with three different partners. While this is the first time Yuma Aoyagi has held the World Tag Championship in his career. After the match, Daisuke Sekimoto & Abdullah Kobayashi would come out to challenge the brand new champions at a later date. Abdullah Kobayashi & Daisuke Sekimoto defeated Kento Miyahara and Yuma Aoyagi on the first night of World Tag League last year.  New Year’s War Continues Tomorrow with the main event of Yuma Aoyagi vs. Suwama for the Triple Crown Championship.
