Preview: AEW DARK (12/1/20)

aew dark

It’s another mega-stacked edition of AEW DARK with new debuts, anticipated returns, and lots of strong tag team action on display. Let’s get right to it. Here’s a preview of what to expect tonight.

Tesha Price vs Shanna

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began impacting travel in March, Shanna is back in AEW. A 14-year veteran of the industry, Shanna has wrestled just three prior matches in AEW this year. This will be her first DARK match since January where she’ll take on the returning Tesha Price, who will also be making her fourth appearance in AEW this year. Just a three-year vet, Price still has a ways to go before matching up to Shanna in both experience and accolades. Price will have a chance to learn a lot this week when she shares the ring with the longtime veteran Shanna for the first time.

George South Jr. and Bobby Wayward vs the Acclaimed

Looking to keep their undefeated record since becoming the Acclaimed just last month, the duo of Max Caster and Anthony Bowens take on some new faces in the debuting George South Jr. and Bobby Wayward. Hoping to stand in the way of a fifth straight victory for the Acclaimed, the eight-year veteran of WrestlePro, Bobby Wayward is set to team with the 13-year veteran and son of a legend, George South Jr. South hasn’t been in action since 2015, where up to that point, he was largely known for his time in the NWA. This is another big match for the Acclaimed as they’ll be taking on a pair of tough opponents with nothing to lose on Tuesday night.

KiLynn King vs Katalina Perez

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333758266871074820

While not officially announced as All Elite…yet…, there have been few women who have wrestled as many matches in AEW in 2020 as KiLynn King has. The 3D Academy graduate is set to make her 18th appearance for the company this year, her 16th of which is on DARK. One of the top female DARK staples of the past year, King has even gotten a chance to pick up a few victories of late, winning two of her last three matches. In Katalina Perez, King will take on an American Combat Wrestling regular. Perez hasn’t been wrestling for long but as a trainee of Jay Lethal, she certainly has the backing to go far. This will be just her second match in AEW and first in over a month. She’ll no doubt look to make an impact against King, who already has all eyes on her.

The Chaos Project vs Alex Chamberlain and Seth Gargis

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333848942023487491

The Chaos Project was born on AEW DARK and it is on DARK where the duo of LUTHER and Serpentico have dominated. A team of just under five months now,  Chaos Project has five wins in their last seven DARK matches. Coming off a loss in their last appearance however, Chaos Project will look to return to their vicious and winning ways when they take on the first-time pairing of Alex Chamberlain and Seth Gargis. A 17-year-veteran known recently for his time in RONIN and Ring Warriors, Chamberlain is returning for his fifth match in AEW, third consecutive with a different tag team partner. Unsuccessful with his last two partners, Chamberlain will try his luck alongside fellow Gangrel Asylum wrestler, Seth Gargis, who debuted last week on DARK in six-man tag action.

Jon Cruz vs Peter Avalon

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333743136946917377

It’s another night of double duty for Jon Cruz/Serpentico as in his second match of the show, he’ll take on Peter Avalon, the recently no longer undefeated Avalon that is. Alongside LUTHER, Serpentico will likely get another win but as Cruz, the man is still looking for his first victory in what will be his ninth appearance as his alternate persona. Avalon meanwhile, is riding high. After losing to Brandon Cutler in their “loser must win” match, it didn’t take Avalon long to end his all-time losing streak as he did so just one week later. Now, Avalon is coming off back-to-back wins and much like Cutler, who is also on the card, will look to keep adding numbers to the win column against Cruz.

Adam Priest and Sean Maluta vs. Best Friends

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333818924773814274

Recently, Best Friends have been at odds with the gaming duo of Kip Sabian and Miro. Even Penelope Ford and Orange Cassidy have gotten in on the action. While Trent and Chuck Taylor will have the aforementioned duo on their minds, they will have to be focused on their AEW DARK opponents for this week. Adam Priest and Sean Maluta have shown promise, given their regular appearances on the YouTube wrestling show in question. However, they will be facing a game Taylor and Trent. It may benefit Best Friends to keep an eye on “Superbad” and his “Best Man” if they decide to interfere in this match.

Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. vs. Cezar Bononi and Ryzin

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333788561175322630

Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. are set to get back to their winning ways on this episode of AEW DARK. Last week, the young, long-haired duo came up short against The Hybrid 2. Not a team to let a loss keep them down for long, they will return to DARK to face the team of Cezar Bononi and Ryzin. It’s important to note that, for the most part, Bononi and Ryzin have been featured on this program primarily in tag team matches. Nonetheless, their separate win-loss records haven’t exactly been strong. Garrison and Pillman Jr. struggled as of late, to be certain. However, they have had better luck on DARK, which lends credence to the idea that they will get back to their winning ways here.

Danny Limelight vs. Brandon Cutler

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333728060605083648

The winning streak of Brandon Cutler may continue on this edition of AEW DARK. From Michael Nakazawa to Ryzin to Adam Priest, AEW’s Dungeons and Dragons enthusiast has been on an undeniable hot streak. It’s difficult to think that this was once the same individual that struggled to pick up victories. This week, Cutler takes on a formidable challenge in Danny Limelight. In addition to his continued appearances on AEW DARK, Limelight remains a featured competitor on UWN Primetime Live, NJPW Strong, and other events. Can Limelight’s success on these platforms translate to a victory on AEW DARK against Cutler?

The Dark Order (Stu Grayson and Evil Uno) vs. Baron Black and Fuego Del Sol

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333833951073415168

Though their recent focus has been on courting Hangman Page, Stu Grayson and Evil Uno must temporarily set aside the recruitment process. On AEW DARK, the prominent members of The Dark Order will take on the duo of Baron Black and Fuego Del Sol. The latter duo has been on the losing end of their AEW matches. For Black, many of these losses were suffered at the hands of The Dark Order. Del Sol has been featured in a number of singles matches, though his luck hasn’t been much better than Black’s. Therefore, heading into this tag team encounter, it’s fair to expect Grayson and Uno to win, hopefully keeping themselves in good standing with Mr. Brodie Lee.

Leva Bates vs. Alex Gracia

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333795892554395648

This episode of AEW DARK marks Leva Bates’ first appearance on the program in three weeks. Earlier this month, “The Librarian” scored a major victory over “The Real Mean Girl,” Dani Jordyn. Since then, outside of being a spectator in the front row for AEW events, Bates has been absent from action. This week, the blue-haired veteran returns to action against Alex Gracia, who has yet to pick up a win on AEW DARK. Despite putting on strong efforts against Penelope Ford and Ivelisse, “The Pink Dream” has struggled. With a little under three years of experience under her belt, Gracia will enter this match as the underdog against the more seasoned Bates.

Matt Sydal vs. Aaron Solow

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333825962631368706

Since becoming a regular competitor in AEW, as well as officially signing with the company, Matt Sydal’s “third eye” has been on the prize. Last week, on AEW DARK, he was successful in his match against Alan “Five” Angels of The Dark Order. This week, Sydal faces a less nefarious foe in the form of Aaron Solow. Coincidentally, Solow has had his own run-ins with The Dark Order. Case and point, the same week Sydal vanquished “Five,” Solow and Lee Johnson fell to the stable’s Alex Reynolds and John Silver. Sydal and Solow are likely to have a more straightforward match, and based on their respective styles, expect it to be nothing short of fast-paced.

KTB vs. Shawn Spears

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333856245833412612

Longtime fans of Game Changer Wrestling will undoubtedly be familiar with KTB. As one half of Ironbeast, alongside Shane Mercer, KTB is a former GCW World Tag Team Champion. Despite this, his efforts on AEW DARK have left a bit to be desired, as he’s come up short in his prior matches on the show. This week, he takes on Shawn Spears, who will undoubtedly be accompanied by his mentor, Tully Blanchard. Along with his iconic black glove, Spears will be that much more of a challenge for KTB. Regardless, the dominant GCW star has success on his mind, as he aims to pick up his first victory on AEW DARK against the “Chairman” of All Elite Wrestling.

Angel Fashion, VSK, and Shawn Donovan vs. The Gunn Club

https://twitter.com/TheAEWDark/status/1333864023708889094

To say that The Gunn Club has been successful in AEW would be an understatement. Case and point, on last week’s AEW DARK, the trio of Billy, Austin, and Colten Gunn bested the trio of Seth Gargis, Cezar Bononi, and KTB. This week, the Gunn family will, once again, be in six-man tag team action. Though successful in other promotions, Angel Fashion, VSK, and Shawn Donovan have struggled to gain ground in All Elite Wrestling. If these unique personalities can work together, they may be able to pick up a victory, cutting the moment of The Gunn Club short. Even so, it’s fair to expect the father-and-sons trio to pick up yet another AEW victory.
