Major Wrestling Companies Reportedly Dealing With COVID Outbreaks

WWE Pinned

It was bound to happen sooner or later once professional wrestling companies began to run shows regularly again but it is being reported that WWE, AEW, and Mexican promotion CMLL are all dealing with COVID outbreaks amongst their talent.

WWE’s outbreak was initially reported by Jon Alba who specifies that it is the NXT brand that is dealing with the outbreak.  The RAW and SmackDown crews have been running TV from the Amway centre recently in the ThunderDome so we assume the main roster talent have kept away from the outbreak but NXT has not been so lucky as it continues to run at the Performance Centre.  Last night’s NXT featured no crowd which has furthered speculation that the brand is dealing with an outbreak.

AEW’s Lance Archer revealed publicly that he has tested positive for COVID-19 although he seems to have got it from close contact with someone outside of wrestling.  Despite that Alba and Sean Ross Sapp are reporting that AEW is dealing with an outbreak of its own spawning from the September 9th taping.  Since that report Benjamin Carter who worked AEW Dark and Late Night Dynamite recently has tested positive for COVID-19. Twitter insider SoDuTw has also said that they know a half dozen full time AEW talents that have tested positive.

Mexican promotion CMLL is also dealing with an outbreak.  They have already had four luchadores test positive for COVID which has caused changes to their Aniversario event.  Rob Viper dived much deeper and stated that CMLL has more positive cases that they will not announce.

Professional wrestling has attempted to safeguard against these issues but if these rumours are correct then we may be seeing a number of outbreaks spawning from some major companies.
