Preview: DDT – Summer Vacation 2020 (7/23/20)

DDT Summer Vacation 2020

Dramatic Dream Team (DDT) is out of the woods, for the most part, they have ended their weekly show and gone back to their regular touring schedule. And what better way to celebrate than a return to Koruken Hall with DDT Summer Vacation 2020 on July 23rd. This is the last stop before “Beer Garden-like shows” and the 2020 King of Gate goes into high gear as they figure out the last few issues that remain from the DDT TV Show series.

DAMNATION (Soma Takao/Mad Paulie) vs Yukio Naya and Keigo Nakamura

DAMNATION starts off the card taking on two of the youngest talents in the company. There will be two talents to keep an eye on during this match. The first one being Soma Takao as, despite his relaxed demeanor, he will want to show that he is worth that match against the team of HARASHIMA and Naomichi Marafuji that was promised before COVID. The other talent is Yukio Naya who at Peter Pan 2020 was fighting for the Extreme title. He’ll be looking to get back into that hunt, despite the not great record of his partner Keigo Nakamura.

DISASTER BOX! (Toru Owashi/Naomichi Yoshimura/Kazuki Hirata) vs Danshoku Dieno, Super Sasadango Machine, Seigo Tachibana

Six-man action follows up as a contingent of DISASTER BOX! takes on a very tough combination. After failing to gain a spot in the company Seigo Tachibana was helped by Danshoku Dieno due to his respect for wrestlers who stick to their own style with a bit of controversy. This lead Seigo to go on a road to the top against some of the top wrestlers.  With that in mind DISASTER BOX’s team hasn’t had much luck when the three of them team up despite being extremely talented individuals. So this one will be a toss up, but an extremely fun one to watch.

Chris Brookes and Drew Parker vs DAMNATION (Daisuke Sasaki/Nobuhiro Shimatani)

After a very successful produce show for international audiences, one would think Chris Brookes is on a wave that can’t be stopped. However, one thorn continues to stick in his side, they go by the name of Daisuke Sasaki. The two have been fighting over the Universal Title since it’s inception. Though with his Calimari Drunken Kings partner Masa Takanashi injured for the foreseeable future. Brookes was outnumbered until Big Japan Wrestling (BJW)‘s own Drew Parker stepped in to fight alongside Brookes. With King of DDT on the horizon will this match settle their issues or only serve to stoke the flames?

Junretsu (Jun Akiyama/Makoto Oishi/Mizuki Watase/Hideki Okatani) vs ALL OUT (Konosuke Takeshita/Akito/Shunma Katsumata/Yuki Iino)

The former Akiyama-Gun got a rebrand as Junretsu lead by Makoto Oishi, and recently have been embroiled in a battle with ALL OUT. With Junretsu getting a majority of the momentum it has come down to an all-out battle to settle the score. Every member of each unit is involved in this match. Will the newly branded Junretsu be able to topple all out or will ALL OUT retain unit dominance?

DDT Extreme Title: Shinya Aoki (c) vs Maku Donaruto

The DDT Extreme Title goes up on the line in a stipulation that has yet to be named, but Shinya Aoki named his challenger. Maku Donaruto, who initially denied the title opportunity but the match was made regardless. Donaruto returned to DDT facing Chris Brookes. At the same time, Aoki has been defending the Extreme title in very creative stipulations with the most recent being a no-count-out match to encourage and celebrate the lifting of the lockdown. So expect something wild from the mind of the champion.

KO-D Six-Man Championship: Eruption! (Yukio Sakaguchi/Kazusada Higuchi/Saki Akai) vs Antonio Honda, HARASHIMA, and Riho

At DDT TV Show #7 Eruption! won the KO-D Six-Man titles from #DAMNHEARTS, the following week they took on a team led by Antonio Honda. They won but Honda challenged anyway given that their first defense was set for DDT Summer Vacation 2020 anyways. His first partner to come out was Riho, and the final member of the challenging team was HARASHIMA. Eruption! accepted the challenge, but with Saki Akai ending her series with a losing four losses three wins she will be looking to get back where she last was.  With HARASHIMA and Higuchi so close to each other in the King Of DDT bracket, there’s bound to be some sizing each other up.

KO-D Openweight Title: Tetsuya Endo (c) vs Yuki UenoDDT Summer Vacation 2020

It seemed like a sudden flash that Yuki Ueno became a top contender for the title, but here we are. He won his Right to Challenge Gauntlet from MAO on DDT TV Show #7 and cashed in that night against the newly crowned champion Tetsuya Endo. After a very close match, Endo won and used his victory to challenge for the tag titles held by Ueno and Naomi Yoshimura. In the final match of the DDT TV Shows, Yuki Ueno hit his new finisher the WR, and pinned Tetsuya Endo. With that clean victory, he challenged Endo to one final match for the title, and after an original hesitation, it was set for DDT Summer Vacation 2020. Endo promises to embarrass Ueno, but there’s a real chance Ueno could walk out double-champion. The winner of this match goes into King of DDT as Champion so there are strong implications here.
