The North Pass One Year as IMPACT World Tag Team Champs

It was on July 5, 2019, that The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander) defeated LAX‘s Santana & Ortiz at the IMPACT Wrestling and River City Wrestling (RCW) special, Bash at the Brewery, in Texas to win the IMPACT World Tag Team titles. Now The North is celebrating one full year as the longest-reigning IMPACT Tag Team Champions in history.

The North may have suddenly arrived on the scene together in IMPACT Wrestling when Josh Alexander arrived in early 2019 to re-unite with Ethan Page, but the duo has been tagging together for nearly a decade in the US and Canadian indies prior to the reformation and new tag team name. In 2011, they first united under the name Monster Mafia, and by 2013 they were working for Ring of Honor. While a part of ROH’s roster, they faced reDragon (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish) for the ROH World Tag Team titles. They also worked in various US indies like AAW Pro and Beyond Wrestling (where they first faced off against a pre-LAX Santana & Ortiz in 2016). In 2015, they won the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) World Tag Team titles. They had some down years, as both moved on to concentrate on their singles careers, but they reunited in 2018 and in 2019 won the Wrestling Revolver Tag Team titles, as well as the Alpha-1 Tag Team titles in their native Canada.

At 366-days, they’ve blown past the previous longest reign, set by LAX in 2019 with a reign of 261-days, which had beaten America’s Most Wanted (“Wildcat” Chris Harris & “Cowboy” James Storm) and their 250-day reign as NWA World Tag Team Champions as the longest tag team reign in TNA/IMPACT history. So far The North has had 22 successful title defenses in the year, including matches (or rematches) against LAX, The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz), The Work Horsemen (JD Drake & Anthony Henry), Reno Scum, Rich Swann & Willie Mack, Rhino & Rob Van Dam, Eddie Edwards & Noamichi Marifuji, and more. They’re currently set to defend their titles at IMPACT Slammiversary on July 18 against Sami Callihan & Ken Shamrock.
