Preview: WWE NXT (6/3/20)

WWE NXT

WWE NXT returns to our screens this Wednesday! An action-packed night of wrestling looks to be in-store once more.  This week’s show follows last week’s excellent cage fight between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher, so it has much to live up to.  With this week’s episode hosting the culmination of the Cruiserweight Tournament, it just might do that.  However, in traditional NXT fashion, only two matches have so far been confirmed.  We will be sure to update this preview as more is announced.  Let’s dive in!

Mia Yim vs Candice LeRae

The paths of these two have crossed aplenty over the years.  Their first meeting came way back in 2014 – when the Lucha Sisters (Leva Bates and Mia Yim) defeated the World’s Cutest Tag Team (Candice LeRae and Joey Ryan) for the SHINE Tag Team titles.  For much of 2019, they were a tag team together in NXT.  Since then, however, Candice has undergone something of an attitude adjustment – now hellbent on beating the woman who she believes has been handed opportunity after opportunity on a “silver platter”.  This is Yim’s chance to silence this new version of LeRae.  Can she do it? Tune in to find out.

Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Final: Drake Maverick vs El Hijo Del Fantasma

WWE NXT

Weeks of the gruelling Cruiserweight Championship Tournament have led to his moment.  The recently-debuted, enigmatic El Hijo del Fantasma looks to defeat the emotional underdog story of the year, Drake Maverick.  For weeks now, Fantasma has easily fought off the the masked men – leading to some claims that Fantasma is leading them.  Is he? We don’t know.  In contrast, Maverick has been scratching and clawing his way to the final in an attempt to prove to the WWE brass that he belongs in the WWE.  You might remember that Maverick was released from the company a couple of months back, therefore his resurgence has been something of a nice surprise.  However, he must now overcome the biggest obstacle in his way.  NXT is live at 8 PM ET, on USA Network.
