Preview: Monday Night RAW (6/1/20)

Rey Mysterio

Can you believe it’s already June? If you’ve been following these previews and the shows themselves, you’ll feel how the year is just flying by.  With everything that is going on in the world currently, these shows provide something of a distraction.  For all the WWE‘s faults, they deserve credit for providing us with entertainment.  This week’s episode of Monday Night RAW looks set to be another good one.  What does the red brand have in store? Let’s dive in and find out!

Apollo Crews US Open Challenge

Monday Night RAW

Apollo Crews shocked the world last week.  Having been in the WWE for over five years, this was the moment he finally captured some WWE gold.  Well deserved, too, as Crews is freakishly talented.  In beating Andrade, he captured the United States Championship for the first time.  In what was once a weekly tradition under John Cena, Apollo has issued a US Open Challenge.  Who awaits the newly crowned champion? A RAW mainstay? Or perhaps someone from NXT? Who knows.  Tune-in to find out who this mystery challenger is.

Asuka vs Charlotte Flair

Since capturing the NXT Women’s Championship at WrestleMania XXXVI, Charlotte Flair has been hell-bent on appearing on all brands.  We have no idea how she manages this with the supposed brand split, of course, but it’s probably because she’s a Flair.  Woo.  Anyway, Asuka succeeded Becky Lynch as RAW Women’s Champion a few weeks back.  With Lynch gone for the foreseeable future to have a child, Asuka was the natural successor.  She has been one of the stand-out performers during these crowd-less shows and deserves her current spot.  Who wins here? Asuka is feuding with Nia Jax, who defeated Charlotte and Natalya last week in a triple threat match.  With Asuka in the midst of a feud with Jax, there is potential for interference. Similarly, Charlotte is feuding with Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai.  It is hard to envision this match ending clean.

Seth Rollins vs Aleister Black

What a turn around Seth Rollins has had.  Just a few short months ago, he was a struggling babyface.  After somehow having managed to lose all momentum and support from the crowd, Rollins turned heel.  Since transitioning into the role of Monday Night Messiah, he has re-established himself as one of the top (if not the top) guys on RAW.  Good matches, excellent character and sound storytelling has led to the renewed Seth Rollins we see today.  Step up, Aleister Black.  Black has been embroiled in this feud against Murphy and Rollins for a while now.  Backing up Rey Mysterio, Black is a formidable foe of the Monday Night Messiah.  If there’s anyone who is going to stand up to this false prophet, it’s probably the guy with sympathy for the devil.  Don’t miss this match.

Rey Mysterio Retirement Ceremony

Monday Night RAW

Does anyone actually think Rey Mysterio is retiring here? Me neither.  However, in a traditional heel move, Seth Rollins has promised to hold a retirement ceremony for the legendary luchadore.  What happens here? We don’t know.  Will Rey interfere? Very likely.  There are rumors that this potentially leads to Rey’s son, Dominic, donning the iconic mask.  We don’t deal in rumors here, but that might be fun to see.  Regardless, you should tune-in to find out what happens!

Not Announced But Expected

– Follow Up On Lashley and McIntyre‘s Brawl

– What game is next for the Raiders and Profits

– Have MVP‘s words got to the Street Profits

– The Iiconics are gunning for Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross‘ titles

Overall, RAW looks pretty good this week.  Following a very fun (though controversial) edition of SmackDown last Friday, WWE might be entering something of a solid run of form.  Can they continue the run here? We’ll have to wait and see.  RAW is live on USA Network this Monday, 8PM ES.
