Preview: NXT (4/29/20)

It is that time again.  Once again, the NXT preview is here… which means the latest episode of NXT is soon to follow.  This week’s NXT is yet another behind-closed-doors show.  In recent weeks, the black and yellow brand has promoted events with just two matches.  Last week’s was a notable exception, as it billed the entire card in advance (though the mouth watering prospect of The Velveteen Dream versus Finn Balor turned out to be little more than a cruel tease).  This week’s show has returned to promoting just two matches in advance.  However, they should both be good, if not great matches.  Let’s get to it!

Charlotte Flair vs Mia Yim

NXT

One of the two matches currently billed is this one: Charlotte Flair versus Mia Yim.  You might be tricked into believing this is a “first time ever” match.  However, Charlotte beat Yim way back in 2014, during her initial NXT run.  That match was little more than a squash, with Charlotte winning inside a minute.  However, you can certainly expect this week’s version of the match to go much longer than that.  Last week, Mia Yim defeated  Jessi Kamea in just three minutes and comes into this match strong.  Whereas she might not defeat Charlotte this time around, she is sure to give her a far more competitive bout.  It is rare for Yim to be seen as the underdog, but this week she certainly is.  Expect a very good showing from these two.

NXT North American Championship: Keith Lee (C) vs Damien Priest

The currently billed main event: Keith Lee versus Damien Priest.  Since joining NXT, both men have faced each other over ten times.  Ten! In the early days of this feud, Priest (as both Punishment Martinez and Priest) won most of the matches.  Now, however, the tables have fully turned against him.  Their most recent contest came in a TakeOver match (but took place on an episode of NXT) and featured Dominik Dijakovic as the third man.  Of course, Lee successfully defended his WWE NXT North American Championship in the match.  This time around, it is one versus one.  Monster versus monster.  Priest versus Lee.  Can he pull off the victory here and remind everyone that he can defeat Lee, or will he bask in his glory once more? Tune into NXT on USA Network tonight to find out.
