Preview: NXT (4/1/20)

WWE NXT is back with another exciting edition of its weekly episodic programming.  It shall be airing on a tape delay from its Full Sail base in Winter Park, Florida.  As has been the case in recent weeks, the show will take place without a crowd in attendance.  As the coronavirus epidemic continues to sweep the country, it is vital safety measures are put into place.  However, this show appears to be one not to be missed.  So let’s dive right in!

Velveteen Dream vs Bobby Fish

It was announced last week that the scheduled NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay would be taking place over the course of the next few weeks.  Velveteen Dream versus Bobby Fish is the first of the scheduled TakeOver matches set to take place.  This feud has been on-going for a while now.  It all began back in October of 2019 when Fish – with his Undisputed Era cohorts – took Dream out.  This put The Dream on the shelf for the next few months.  Since returning in February of this year, he has consistently antagonized Fish.  He has mocked Fish’s wife and son, making the feud personal.  This is going to be a truly heated match and though it is now arguable Fish is the babyface in this match, expect a Velveteen Dream victory.

Keith Lee vs Damian Priest vs Dominik Dijakovic

NXT

Keith Lee has been on a roll in NXT for a while now.  Dominant displays at Survivor Series and Royal Rumble have established Keith as a certain future star.  Standing in the way of his glory are the only two men in NXT bigger than him.  Damian Priest and Dominik Dijakovic will be determined not to bask in the glory of Lee.  Though it currently feels like decades ago, Lee and Dijakovic tore the house down recently at NXT TakeOver: Portland.  Both men proved that the big guys can work.  Can they do the same with a third dance partner in Priest? We’re going to find out.  This is not a match to be missed.

Gauntlet To Qualify For Women’s Ladder Match

The currently billed main event is a Second Chance Gauntlet Match to determine the final participant in the six-woman ladder match on next week’s show.  In tonight’s match, we have Dakota Kai, Deonna Purrazzo, Aliyah, Kayden Carter, Xia Lee and Shotzi Blackheart.  Currently, Mia Yim, Chelsea Green, Tegan Nox, Candie LeRae and a returning Io Shirai have qualified for the ladder match.  Each of the qualified woman defeated a woman in the match tonight.  Who will best grasp the opportunity of a second chance? Again, we will have to find out.  One thing is certain: NXT women’s matches are consistently great.  This could be yet another to add to the long list of classics.

Though this is the billed show for tonight, expect appearances from Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair.  This is NXT’s last show before WrestleMania and with this being the last opportunity to draw eyes to their looming match, expect them to seize it.  Tonight’s show should be another exciting distraction from the crisis outdoors – enjoy the wrestling!
