Indie Watch: ‘The Airbender’ Royce Chambers

Royce Chambers

Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalising their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at the latest high-flying sensation out of Australia, Royce Chambers.

Modern professional wrestling has evolved, with an emphasised focus on athletic ability. This has happened thanks to pioneers of the cruiserweight style such as Rey Mysterio and Amazing Red. It was then being innovated upon by the likes of Will Ospreay, Ricochet and Bandido. Down in Australia, the next wave of high-flying athletes are beginning to emerge. The Velocities are leading the charge in the tag scene. DDT Pro Wrestling‘s latest acquisition, Royce Chambers, leads the way on the singles front.

Chambers was originally trained in the Professional Championship Wrestling (PCW) Academy, alongside the likes of Indi Hartwell, Tome Filip and Stevie Filip.

In September of 2018, Chambers would make his debut at PCW Energy in a tag team contest alongside Emmett Black. They took on Chris Trance and Tommy Hellfire. For the majority of his career in PCW, Chambers has been competing in tag team action with his partner Jamie Durden; together, they were known as The RnB Show. On August 31, 2019, The RnB Show would capture their first PCW gold. They defeated RB4K (Aysha & Sammy Falcon) to become the PCW Tag Team Champions.

In October of 2019, Chambers would make the rare jump across town. He appeared for Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) to compete at their Ninth Anniversary Extravaganza event. Here, he competed MCW Intercommonwealth Championship No.1 Contenders Three-way match against Jett Rouka and Emman The Kid.

After making the switch to the more internationally known MCW, Chambers has quickly generated a buzz throughout the Australian scene.

This was due to his incredible athleticism and high-flying action. In recent months, Chambers has had standout matches against the likes of; Danny Psycho, Headhunter Rig, Steph De Lander, and Jack J. Bonza. Many more, including Robbie Eagles and Will Ospreay, are lining up for their chance against the youngster.

As Chambers now ventures into international waters with a tour of Japan with DDT, look for him to gain further momentum in 2020 and beyond.
