Shelton Benjamin Re-Signs Multi-Year Contract With WWE

On the latest episode of Lillian Garcia‘s Chasing Glory podcast, WWE Superstar Shelton Benjamin revealed he has re-signed a new multi-year contract with the company. “Yes, I just re-signed another multi-year deal with the WWE,” Benjamin told Garcia. “So, I’ll be here for a little while.”

Shelton Benjamin made his return to the WWE Universe in 2017, after nearly six years away from the company from 2011 to 2017. He made his WWE return in August of 2017, when he teamed up with Chad Gable on SmackDown. During his sabbatical away from the WWE, he and tag partner Charlie Haas headed to Ring of Honor to continue their World’s Greatest Tag Team, capturing the ROH World Tag Team titles on two occasions. In 2012, he began working for NJPW, as part of the Suzuki-gun faction. In 2015, he left NJPW for Pro Wrestling NOAH.

During his 10+ year career with WWE, he was originally part of the famed Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) Class of 2002, that saw Benjamin, John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, and Brock Lesnar all make the jump to the WWE roster. Benjamin would join up with Kurt Angle in Team Angle, before going solo as “The Gold Standard”. He’s a 3x WWE Intercontinental Champion, WWE United States Champion, and 2x WWE World Tag Team Champion.

While he revealed he’s re-signed with WWE, he admitted he was at a point of frustration so far with how he’s been utilized the past few years. “I like to be in the mix. I like to be producing. I like to inspire people,” he told Garcia. “Lately, I haven’t been doing much as far as on-air with the WWE. For me, it’s just frustrating. So, when you contacted me to do this interview, my first thought was I don’t even know what to talk about because right now, I’m not really doing anything that’s fulfilling to me.”

“I’m here every week, I’m ready to go,” he continued. “For me, it’s like when I watch shows like this, Chasing Glory, people are chasing something. Right now, I don’t even feel like I’m on the hunt. Not that I don’t want to be. That just frustrates me on a personal level.” You can check out his full interview in the video below.
