12 Months Left: Christopher Saynt To Retire In 2020

Christopher Saynt

As revealed on Boxing Day, Scottish wrestler Christopher Saynt will be retiring within the next 12 months, adding his name to the seemingly ever-growing list of Scottish wrestlers stepping away from the ring either full-time or temporary. In 2019 alone, Johnny Lions, Michael Chase, Shaun Walker, and Jayla Dark were just some of the names who said their goodbyes to Scottish wrestling fans.

Having been on the go since 2011, Saynt will leave behind him a nine-year career when he takes off his wrestling gear for the final time. Over that decade and a bit, The Patron Saint of Selfishness has competed up and down the UK, with his main homes today being Discovery Wrestling (DW) and Respect Pro Wrestling (Respect Pro). As a former Respect Pro Tag Team Champion alongside his Sensational Scenebirds brethren Darrell Costello, Saynt was also awarded the 2018 Match of the Year award in Discovery Wrestling for his sensational (no pun intended) Y Division Championship bout with then-champion Joe Coffey.

2019 has been an incredible year for Christopher, from this writer’s point of view at least. His rivalry in Discovery against former House of Saynt comrade Theo Doros was superb from start to finish, with Doros winning the final battle a few weeks ago at the Christmas Disco to earn a future Y Division Championship opportunity. Elsewhere, he and Costello defended their Respect Pro Tag Team Championships against former champs BMD (Bobby Roberts and JD Bravo) in a Kilbirnie Street Fight at the company’s biggest show to date, The Walker Brawl. Although they came away from that event without the titles around their waists anymore, it remained a huge night for all four men, seeing as it was one of the featured attractions on the bill that night.

Christopher Saynt is also Scotland’s first openly gay professional wrestler, something he spoke to Last Word on Pro Wrestling about over the summer for Pride Month. Saynt still has a lot he hopes to accomplish before he retires, so from now until he officially retires, he’ll be going balls to the wall to end his wrestling career on a high.
