The NXT Recap (12/11/19)

NXT

Bask in his glory? Daddy’s officially home? Or is the Prince truly back? These are the questions fans were asking as NXT’s main event would be one to remember between the three top contenders for the NXT Championship. Here is what another fantastic week of NXT had to offer.

#AndNEW: ANGEL GARZA WINS THE NXT CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Yes, that is right. In the opening match of NXT, it was Lio Rush defending his NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Angel Garza once again. This has become a signature start for NXT, as the Cruiserweights have only made NXT that much better. Rush and Garza have both been on a different level from everyone else, but it was going to take an even bigger effort to walk out with the championship. Just two months after Rush won the championship from Drew Gulak, he lost the title.

The finish came down to Garza hitting the Wing Clipper but Rush somehow kicking out at two. Rather than sitting there in defeat, he would lock on the Wing Clipper and pull back on it, leaving Rush in a tough position and ultimately seeing him tap out. Garza became the new championship to the glee of the Full Sail crowd. Following the match, he asked his girlfriend to marry him. A special night for the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

RAUL MENDOZA PINS CAMERON GRIMES THANKS TO KUSHIDA

NXT

Yes, you have read the caption correctly. Raul Mendoza has wowed every time he has appeared in front of the NXT crowd but rarely has found success. Thanks to KUSHIDA, he found that success on NXT against a man who has pinned him before. Mendoza quickly left after scoring the roll up win, while KUSHIDA stole that hat of Cameron Grimes.

WORLDS COLLIDE PREVIEW AS TRAVIS BANKS STUNS JAXSON RYKER

With Worlds Collide coming in January at Royal Rumble weekend, we had a second week of NXT UK talent coming over to make their name be known as Travis Banks made his Full Sail debut. But it was no easy debut, as the Kiwi Buzzsaw had to defeat the Forgotten SonsJaxson Ryker. Banks got bloodied mid-match as his left eye was covered but he fought on. Good thing he fought on, as he somehow managed to pin Ryker for the three count after a springboard kick that left the Forgotten Sons leader down long enough.

DAKOTA KAI GETS WIN, MIA YIM GETS REVENGE

After the Dakota Kai betrayal at WarGames it was finally time for Mia Yim to get some payback. But since Kai has made her turn, she has not been afraid to face those who want revenge. The match was on and there were no punches held back between them. Unfortunately for Mia Yim, she didn’t have enough as Dakota Kai managed to get the referee turned around long enough for her to remove the turnbuckle, smashing Yim’s face into it and getting the pinfall.

Sore loser Mia Yim wasn’t done, however. She attacked Kai after the match and brawled around Full Sail to the point where Yim smashed Kai through a table with a back slam. A fall that was incredibly brutal and Kai may have been hurt on. Regardless, this was intense and rather expected after Yim lost to her attacker.

BREEZANGO DEFEAT THE SINGH BROTHERS

This match was all about Breezango, as Tyler Breeze and Fandango continue to get wins over the tag team division in NXT. Not only are they building a resume for a possible championship match, but remain one of NXT’s most beloved tag teams. Fandango got the W for his team with a Leg Drop from the top rope on one half of the Singh Brothers.

BIANCA BELAIR SHOWS OUT AGAINST KAYDEN CARTER

NXT

It’s been a few weeks since we have seen Io Shirai and Bianca Belair on NXT. Thankfully, one of those things has been fixed as Belair was back on NXT and showed why she remains the EST of the whole dang show. This meant that Kayden Carter had to be the one who suffered. Not much to this one other than Belair showing her incredible strength as a KOD finished this one.

FINN BALOR WITHSTANDS TOMMASO CIAMPA AND KEITH LEE, SETS UP MATCH AGAINST ADAM COLE NEXT WEEK

The match that everyone was waiting for happened to be the main event of the evening as Finn Balor, Keith Lee, and Tommaso Ciampa all went at it for an opportunity at Adam Cole‘s NXT Championship. As expected, this match was nuts. Back and forth all three men went, including one of the best feats you will see as Ciampa set Balor up for the Air Raid Crash from the top rope. But before he could jump, Lee came over and put him up for the Electric Chair, holding both at the same time and then, of course, came crashing down. Getting a near two count. Moving a little further ahead in the match, Ciampa was able to get Lee up for the Air Raid Crash in the middle of the ring. Somehow, Lee kicked out and the match continued.

As it came down to a close, Keith Lee lifted Ciampa up for the Spirit Bomb and would hit it. But out of nowhere, Finn Balor came crashing down with his Coup de Grace onto Lee and pinning him in the middle of the ring to get the opportunity to regain the NXT Champion next week. The longest reigning champion has a shot at getting back his title and fulfilling his return to NXT once and for all. One has to wonder if a Rebel Heart could make his return to mess Balor up next week. Just speculation.
