The NXT Recap (12/4/19)

NXT

NXT continues to be a bright spot when it comes to televised wrestling. Tonight’s episode is a perfect example of why it is “the” brand in WWE. With that said, let’s dive in to the action.

KILLIAN DAIN ISSUES OPEN CHALLENGE PETE DUNNE ANSWERS

After his match with Damian Priest was canceled, an angry Killian Dain made his way to the ring. He issued an open challenge promptly answered by Pete Dunne, in spite of a knee injury. These men didn’t hold back Dunne landed brutal shots, while Dain used his size advantage to brutalize Dunne with sentons and various drops.

It was that size advantage that scored Dain the victory, slamming Dunne to the mat while he was attempting a choke in a creative ending.

SHAYNA BASZLER DISMANTLES XIA LI

Xia Li looked to get her revenge on Shayna Baszler for last week’s attack. Li was given plenty of opportunities to shine, getting the majority of the offense with her strike heavy offense.

Xia tried a little too hard to nail the champ with one of her signature kicks, allowing Baszler to sink in the Kirifuda Clutch for the win.

RIPLEY VS KAI TURNS INTO…COMPLETE CHAOS

This segment kicked off with Dakota Kai replacing her usual video package with footage of her attack on Tegan Nox. Rhea Ripley then made her entrance, only to pull off a brilliant bait and switch announcing Mia Yim as Kai’s opponent.

The match sadly never really took place, as Yim and Kai decided to brawl back to the locker rooms. Ripley’s bliss from outsmarting her rival was interrupted by Shayna Baszler and her fellow Horsewomen.

Ripley held her own for a while, but the numbers game proved too much for her. The champion Shayna grabbed a microphone, challenging her fallen foe to a match on December 18th for the title.

KUSHIDA RETURNS TRIUMPHANTLY

KUSHIDAmade his long-awaited return against Cameron Grimes, in what is a personal dream match. The two drastically different styles meshed well together. KUSHIDA was able to control with brutal strikes and submissions, but Grimes’ innovative offense gave him some great spots.

The Japanese sensation’s superior mat wrestling proved the difference, scoring a roll-up for the pin.

KEITH LEE CONTINUES IMPRESSIVE RUN WITH BIG WIN

NXT

This main event was set up earlier in the show when Keith Lee and Tommaso Ciampa interrupted The Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly. Lee and Ciampa were joined by Dominik Dijakovic to make this a six-man tag team match.

Dominik looked like an absolute star, dominating The Undisputed Era throughout most of the match. Finn Balor got involved late in the match, attacking Cole and Ciampa. Lee quickly put a stop to Balor’s invasion and followed it up with a jackhammer to Cole for the win.

NXT General Manager William Regal entered shortly after announcing a triple threat match between Finn Balor, Tommaso Ciampa, and Keith Lee. The winner will go on to face Adam Cole for the NXT Championship.
