The NXT Recap (10/30/19)

NXT

This episode of NXT is one of the most anticipated in a while, as the world waits to hear the explanation for Finn Balor’s actions. This is the first time in a while WWE has genuinely surprised everyone, and now we wait to hear the motive of his actions. First, we kick off with a match between two of NXT’s top wrestlers on the roster today.

IO SHIRAI MAKES IT 2-0 AGAINST CANDICE LERAE..ATTACK IS STOPPED BY RHEA RIPLEY

Candice Lerae and Io Shirai resumed their blood feud, and they did not disappoint. These two consistently bring another level of intensity out of each other. Shirai’s noticeably stiffer strikes bloodied Lerae’s nose early, but that didn’t stop Lerae from fighting back.

Shirai attempted to bring in a steel chair, but was quickly stopped by the referee. Lerae attempted to capitalize on the distraction with a roll-up, but Shirai kicked out at two. Unfortunately for Lerae the steel chair would prove her downfall, as she landed on it after a failed moonsault allowing IO to get the pinfall.

Not satisfied with her win, Shirai attempted to assault her friend turned rival but was stopped by the arrival of Rhea Ripley. The segment ended as Ripley stared down Shirai from the ring as the fans cheered.

FINN BALOR IS NOT A FAN…AND HE’S TIRED OF THE FANS IN THE LOCKER ROOM

Finn Balor made his way to the ring to address his attack on Johnny Gargano. Balor commented on his loss to “The Fiend”, and how Wyatt was the hottest thing in wrestling because he put on a mask. He then stated how he took his mask off and became the hottest thing in wrestling.

Balor then addresses the fans, not in the audience, but the ones in the locker room who in his opinion should be in the stands. Finn followed up with how he doesn’t watch the business, the business watches him. He promised that Gargano would no longer be “Johnny Wrestling” he would be “Johnny Watches Wrestling” when Balor is finished with him.

THE KABUKI WARRIORS TRIUMPHANT OVER TEAM KICK AND THE FIRST WOMEN’S WAR GAME MATCH IS ANNOUNCED

This was the first time the Women’s Tag Team Championship was defended on NXT TV, and it did not disappoint. Asuka & Kairi Sane thrived as heels, isolating Dakota Kai for most of this match. The Kabuki Warriors blasted Kai with a series of kicks and targeted her previously injured leg.

That all changed when Tegan Nox got the hot tag, and exploded into the match running through the Kabuki Warriors. While the comeback from Nox was exciting it was short-lived, as Asuka used the poison mist on Kai to gain the win.

While Nox and Kai were being attended to by ringside officials, The Horsewomen made their way to the ring. Nox immediately went on the offensive fighting off Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, but Shayna Baszler blasted Nox to take control.

Rhea Ripley looked to break up her second fight for the night, but Io Shirai gained retribution from earlier. Bianca Belair and Candice Lerae made their way out shortly as chaos erupted. Security tried to regain control as the all-out brawl hit a fever pitch. William Regal came out quickly gaining everyone’s attention, before stating the only way to settle this was War Games. The crowd cheered at the historic announcement, as Ripley knocked down an official to close the segment.

CAMERON GRIMES SCORES HUGE WIN OVER TYLER BATE AND THE BEAST OF BELFAST ATTACKS

NXT

Set up after a brief confrontation, Cameron Grimes and Tyler Bate faced off to settle their differences. This was mostly a showcase for Tyler Bate, as he dominated almost the entire contest. Grimes was able to ht his signature offense as well, but this was mostly about introducing Bate to the national audience.

Bate was on the cusp of getting the victory but was distracted by the appearance of Killian Dain. This distracted Bate long enough for Grimes to hit “The Cave In” for the win (That is probably the most dangerous finisher in NXT). Dain quickly made his way into the ring to assault Bate, and send a message to Pete Dunne.

THE UNDISPUTED ERA CONTINUE TO BUILD MOMENTUM AND TOMMASO CIAMPA DECLARES WAR

Undisputed Era members Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly looked to continue building the group’s momentum against Keith Lee and Matt Riddle. Fish and O’Reilly were largely in control with their trademark underhanded tricks and opportunistic offense. Keith Lee was the standout of the match though.

Anytime he was in the ring Lee dominated the action, using his power to manhandle both Era members. Roderick Strong and Adam Cole soon made their way to the ring to try to interfere but were cut off by Matt Riddle. Sadly that would not be enough, as O’Reilly capitalized on a distracted Riddle to gain the definitive edge. The High Low soon followed giving The Undisputed Era the win.

All members of the Era assaulted both Riddle and Lee, the Tommaso’ Ciampa’s music hit. Ciampa ran out to the ring like a man on fire and laid waste to all with his signature crutch. After a focused assault by Ciampa, Riddle, and Lee on O’Reilly, Ciampa grabbed a mic. His statement was brief,” Goldie…we’ll have to wait Daddy’s going to war!”

The statement electrified the crowd and sent fear to the face of Adam Cole as the show closed with The Undisputed Era retreating to the back.
