Indie Watch: Atticus Cogar

Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! In this edition, we will be taking a look at 22-year old Atticus Cogar, who is breaking out of the Midwest and ready to make his Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) debut at the end of October.

The Midwest continues to be a plethora of talent for pro wrestling, producing some of the top talent at every level, as well as providing one of the greatest concentrations of top independent promotions in the country. One such talent on the verge of exploding nationally is Cleveland, Ohio’s Atticus Cogar. A cold and calculating psychopath inside and outside the ring, his horror is more akin to the mind games of Hannibal Lecter than being a simple slasher like Jason Voorhees. On Monday, October 21, GCW announced the latest GCW debut for their upcoming Jimmy Lloyd’s Halloween Fright Fest in Atticus Cogar. And for those who follow GCW, this should be exciting news – GCW has made a habit the past year of discovering some of the best regional stars and pushing them into a national conversation, such as stars like Marko Stunt, Jungle Boy, Alex Zayne and Blake Christian in the past year alone. And the next Midas touch just may be Atticus Cogar.

Atticus Cogar debuted as an 18-year old in the Ohio indie scene in 2015, getting his first big break with Mega Championship Wrestling (MCW) in Elyra, Ohio. He started out alongside his brother, Otis Cogar, in The Cogar Brothers, working in MCW as well as Cleveland’s Premier Championship Wrestling (PCW), as well as Pennsylvania’s Pro Wrestling eXpress (now Fight Society) and International Wrestling Cartel (IWC). They captured tag team gold in MCW and PCW.

The cult leader personality of Atticus Cogar soon lead him to leading the faction The Culmination, alongside brother Otis, as well as Gory, Remy Lavey, and Krimson, but it was growing apparent that “The Leader” didn’t necessarily need back up. As a singles performer, he was branching out on his own, with the likes of Buffalo’s Empire State Wrestling (ESW), IWA Mid South, IWC, and PCW, where he’s the current reigning PCW Heavyweight Champion.

This year has seen Atticus Cogar expand even further, working with Chicago’s Freelance Wrestling and Indiana’s Bizzaro Lucha, and now he’s set to make his debut with GCW next Monday at Jimmy Lloyd’s Halloween Fright Fest. He released a video to hype his debut on Monday, featuring the spoken-word piece “Anatomy 1:1” by King 810.

At only 22 years old, Atticus Cogar has yet to even experience his peak, but he’s already breaking out of the Midwest with a determination that is needed to hit the next level. And with GCW’s track record of finding the best unknown wrestlers and lighting a firecracker under their careers, Atticus Cogar’s darkness has the potential to reach even greater heights.
