#AndNew: Melbourne City Wrestling Crowns Inaugural Women’s Champion

Melbourne City Wrestling

As part of their ninth anniversary celebrations, Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) has crown their first-ever Women’s Champion, in the form of the ‘Python Powerhouse’ Steph De Lander.

In order to capture the title, Steph De Lander had to win the prestigious MCW Invitational tournament. This is a tournament which has been held for a number of years and in the past has featured the likes of Marty Scurll, Trent Seven, Robbie Eagles, and Adam Brooks.

This year, for the first time ever, the tournament focused on the women’s division. The field consisted of Steph De Lander, Kellyanne, Avary, Kingsley, Candy Lee, Jessica Troy, Xena, and Tarlee.

In order to progress to the final, Steph De Lander defeated Avary, Candy Lee, and ultimately Kellyanne in the final. De Lander’s opponent had carved her way through an incredibly tough side of the bracket having defeated Kingsley and Jessica Troy before succumbing to De Lander.

There may be a slight asterisk placed upon this victory. Particularly because De Lander attacked Kellyanne with a chair following Kellyanne’s victory over Jessica Troy.
