The NXT UK Recap (10/10/19)

This week’s instalment of NXT UK saw the brand head to Brentwood, Essex for the first time, featuring four huge matches and numerous match announcements for future episodes!

Common Enemies

In the main event, Piper Niven collided with Jazzy Gabert, fresh off of Jazzy’s backstage assault on Niven on last week’s show. Both women utilised their power throughout the contest, with the German native slamming her bigger opponent to the mat with a scoop slam. Jinny would of course get involved in the action but when The Vixen of Violence was busy taking care of her, it distracted the referee long enough to allow Rhea Ripley to run in and boot the jaw off of Jazzy. A running senton followed from Piper as she picked up a victory over the former Alpha Female, albeit with the assistance of her rival.

Tag Titles Showdown

At the top of the show, Nigel McGuinness and new commentary partner Tom Phillips revealed that Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster would make the second defence of their NXT UK Tag Team Championships on next week’s episode as they battle GallusMark Coffey and Wolfgang. This week though, the two teams had a war of words, with Coffey and Wolfie interrupting the champs as they were in the process of thanking the fans for their continued support. The Power Forward and The Regulator made it clear that new champions will be crowned in one week, while South Wales’ favourite sons assured us all that they’d be heading back down to their homeland with the doubles gold remaining around their waists.

The Ace Is The Best

Jordan Devlin‘s moniker is The Irish Ace, but he firmly believes he’s the best not only in Ireland, but NXT UK as a whole. He backed up those beliefs with a victory over Jack Starz this week thanks to the Devil Side Suplex in a bit of a competitive contest but then again, who hasn’t beaten Starz? Post-match, Devlin proceeded to repeat his claims of being the biggest and best star on the NXT UK roster, something that drew the ire of Dave Mastiff as The Bomber made his presence felt prior to his bout with Kenny Williams. Looks like Devlin’s statements aren’t sitting too well with the locker room.

Not So Lucky

Dave Mastiff was in singles competition this week for the first time since his epic Last Man Standing Match with Joe Coffey at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff as he went toe to toe with Kenny Williams, a man who’s known as The Lucky Yin. As we quickly realised throughout this bout though, Kenny was anything but lucky here as he battled the monstrous Mastiff, appearing to suffer some sort of ankle injury after being dumped over the top rope. It’s an injury that had an effect on Williams later on, as he botched an attempt at a springboard stunner, allowing Mastiff plenty of time to demolish him in the corner with his Into The Void cannonball senton.

Back On The Hunt

The Hunt pairing of Wild Boar and The Primate returned to action this week as they battled Pretty Deadly (Sam Stoker and Lewis Howley) in the night’s opening bout. As expected, the hairy duo of beasts were in control of this match for a good chunk of time, but Stoker and Howley were able to gain the advantage later on. Obviously though, it would Primate and Boar who picked up the victory here, hitting their double diving headbutt finisher for the three count. They were confronted post-match by Imperium members Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel, although they were able to take them both out with separate tope suicidas that would make Mauro Ranallo jump out of his seat. Alexander Wolfe sauntered out to join the fray moments after, tipping the scales in the favour Imperium as they stood tall.

What Else?

In addition to all this, a promo video was played to promote the in-ring return next week of Ilja Dragunov, Xia Brookside challenged Nina Samuels to a future match after Nina walked in on Xia’s backstage promo, Noam Dar and Trent Seven got into a bit of a scuffle as the assistant to the NXT UK General Manager Sid Scala ordered a rematch between them for two weeks time, and former NXT UK Tag Team Champions The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) confronted Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster while they were being interviewed by Alicia Taylor.
