Preview: Beyond Wrestling – Uncharted Territory, Season 2 Premiere

Uncharted Territory

Last April, on the Wednesday before WrestleMania weekend, Beyond Wrestling decided to do something that had never been done in independent wrestling before – launch a weekly live show. The 18 episode run ran until the end of July, climaxing at Beyond’s biggest show of the year Americanrana ’19. The show acted as a huge showcase for some of the best talents in the United States. The weekly show produced some classics like Kris Stratlander vs Joey Janela, Orange Cassidy vs Kylie Rae and Jay Freddie vs Bradon Thurston. There was everything from intergender matches, Independent Wrestling Championship defenses, deathmatches, atomicos and future, and past television stars. Beyond has moved Uncharted Territory to a new day because, well, Wednesday’s were getting crowded. They will now be live every Thursday and IndependentWrestling.tv. Season two will run through the fall leading, up to Beyond’s annual New Year’s Eve show Heavy Lies The Crown, which will include running on both Halloween and Thanksgiving.  Beyond is looking to once again make history with its second season of Uncharted Territory. Here’s a look at what’s been announced for the Season Two premiere.

Lance Archer vs Josh Briggs

Beyond is showing they are not messing around this season when the first wrestler they announced for Uncharted Territory was New Japan star Lance Archer. Archer is only a few months of off wrestling in the G-1 Climax and he will be wrestling Beyond regular Josh Briggs. Briggs had a pretty even win-loss record last season, including getting pinned by Johnny Foxwoods at Americanrana ‘19. However, Briggs did just beat AEW star MJF at All Hands on Deck for Freidman’s last independent wrestling show. It will be interesting to see if Josh Briggs uses season two of Uncharted Territory to really launch his career.

Solo Darling vs. Mark Sterling

At Americanrana Mark Sterling came out of nowhere and helped Alex Reynolds win his match against his former tag team partner John Silver. Later that week at the Season Finale of Uncharted Territory Solo Darling and Alex Reynolds were facing off when Mark Sterling got involved and stole Solo’s dog Officer Magnum and threatened to throw him out of the second-floor building. Solo Darling will be looking to kick off season two by getting her revenge on the man who endangered her dog.

Nick Gage vs Kris Stratlander

This is a perfect example of what makes Beyond one of the most interesting wrestling companies. They take two of their biggest stars and put together a match you never knew you wanted to see, but as soon as you see it, you need to see it. Kris Statlander certainly made a name for herself during season one of Uncharted Territory where she had an out of this world match with Joey Janela or her bloody cage match with Kimber Lee at Americanrana ‘19. Kris Statlander always seems to copy her opponent’s moves, so expect her to be gang affiliated when these two face off at Uncharted Territory. This match is also interesting because these two will be trios partners at Chikara’s King of Trios the following night with Thomas Santell as Team Beyond.

Jay Freddie vs Brandon Thurston

Early into season one, these two had one of the best matches, going twenty-plus minutes and showing exactly what Beyond wanted to do with Uncharted Territory. On the last episode of Uncharted Territory, these two met again and the match was different but still good. The two Buffalo wrestlers each have one win over the other and they will be having the rubber match

Orange Cassidy vs Thomas Santell

No one has had a year quite like Orange Cassidy. The two time Independent Wrestling TV Champion has faced anyone and everyone, from Gangrel to Kylie Rae to Ethan Page. Cassidy also debuted on AEW’s All Out and signed a contract with AEW. While most AEW signees have stopped booking indie dates, Cassidy still has a few dates lined up, one of which is the first episode of Uncharted Territory season two. He will be facing another man who has had quite a year. The former WWE Heart Throb was having himself a quite wrestling career when he participated in the Discovery Gauntlet. Fans fell in love with him and he went on a huge winning streak. Santell would go on to team with Nick Gage in their still undefeated tag team Nurder Death Kill. Look for Santell next Wrestlemania weekend when he will most likely be on every single show. Orange Cassidy facing Thomas Santell could be a hundred different matches but it will certainly be enjoyable.

Chris Dickinson vs Wheeler YUTA

Another star having a career year is Chris Dickinson. Dickinson took on the biggest and strongest wrestlers from all around the country leading up to his match with Daisuke Sekimoto at Americanrana ‘19. After his match against Kenny Doane at All Hands on Deck, Wheeler YUTA came out to challenge Dickinson and the two made a match for the first episode of Uncharted Territory season two. Dickinson seems like he may be trying to show his versatility this season, taking on one of the best grappling wrestlers on Beyond’s roster. Wheeler YUTA alluded to Dickinson going after the Independent Wrestling Championship currently held by WARHORSE. If Chris Dickinson’s season two is half as good as his first season of Uncharted Territory expect big things.

Discovery Gauntlet: Daniel Garcia vs Matt Makowski

Last season of Uncharted Territory, the Discovery Gauntlet was a place for lesser-known indie talent to really make a name for themselves. Mick Moretti helped make a name for himself in the United States. Thomas Santell broke out and showed the independent scene how versatile of a veteran wrestler he was. Christan Casanova made a name for himself as a rising star. However, no one looked as dominate as Daniel Garcia. Garcia was able to beat Casanova even with the help of Cam Zagami and then went on to win two more matches in decisive fashion to close out the first season of Uncharted Territory. Since then Garcia has gone on to make his debut in EVOLVE

The Discovery Gauntlet is back and the only rule is you have to win it to stay in it. Daniel Garcia will be returning to try and add onto his 3-0 winning streak. Trying to stop him will be CHIKARA and former Bellator fighter Matt Makowski. Makowski is a member of The Crucible, a dominate faction run by Ophidian. Makowski also made his GCW debut at Bloodsport II beating Rory Gulak. There is no telling which one of these hard-hitting wrestlers will be around next week for the Discovery Gauntlet but the only one can stay.
