Big Titan, formerly Fake Razor Ramon, Passes Away at 49

In sad news, it has been revealed that Rick Bognar, who wrestled in Japan as Big Titan but is famous more for his brief WWF stint as the fake Razor Ramon, passed away unexpectedly on September 20. The news was confirmed by Bognar’s brother. Rick Bognar was only 49 years old.

Rick Bognar was a Canadian indie wrestler from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he trained at the infamous Hart Dungeon. He started his career in Stampede Wrestling in 1988, where he competed as Rick Titan. In 1991, he headed to Japan where he began to compete with Frontier Marital-Arts Wrestling (FMW), where his name became Big Titan. He won the FMW Double Championship. In 1995, he left FMW to join Wrestling Association-R (WAR), where he competed for just over a year.

He returned to North America in 1996, first appearing for ECW for a few months, before joining the WWF that summer as the new Razor Ramon. Alongside Glenn Jacobs as the new Diesel, the two became the scorn of many fans – they wanted the real Razor not a fake Razor Ramon. The WWF has sought to replace the characters after the original wrestlers – Scott Hall and Kevin Nash – left for WCW. By early 1997, he left the WWF as the two replacement characters would be nixed. Jacobs would find a better career when he was repackaged as Kane.

Returning to his Big Titan persona, he returned to Japan, this time joining New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), where he joined the nWo Japan team. He remained with NJPW into 1999, before returning once again to North America. He finished out his career in 2001, returning full circle and competing with the rebooted Stampede Wrestling.
