Report: John Morrison Re-Signs with WWE

John Morrison

PWInsider reported on Thursday morning than former 3x WWE Intercontinental Champion John Morrison has signed to return to WWE. Morrison left the WWE in 2011 after eight years with the company. Since his departure from the WWE, Morrison went on to great success with IMPACT Wrestling, Lucha Underground, and Mexico’s AAA, while he also continued to maintain a high profile in the US indies.

John Morrison began in the US indies in 2002, before signing with the WWE in 2003 after co-winning the 2002 edition of Tough Enough. He was initially assigned to WWE’s developmental in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) before joining the main roster full time as Johnny Nitro in the stable MNM, that also featured Joey Mercury and Melina, capturing the WWE Tag Team titles on three occasions. He would briefly go solo, winning two Intercontinental titles, before being paired with The Miz in another tag team, capturing two more WWE tag team titles. By 2011, Morrison was burned out and left the company.

After taking a few years off from regular competition (although he did do several smaller indie appearances), he returned full time the business in 2014 as a part of Lucha Underground, where he saw himself reinvented and reinvigorated as Johnny Mundo, where he won the Lucha Underground Championship. He also began to work in Mexico with AAA, where he won the AAA Mega Championship as well as the AAA Latin America Championship and AAA Cruiserweight Championship.

In 2017, he headed to IMPACT Wrestling, alongside his wife Taya Valkyrie, where they became the top power couple of the promotion until his departure following this year’s IMPACT Slammiversary, where he held the IMPACT World Heavyweight Championship for nearly 200 days.
