Preview: Shine 61 (9/21/19)

The ladies of the WWN Live family returns to La Boom in New York City on September 27th! Shine 61 is part of another stacked double-header card with EVOLVE 136. Allysin Kay will clash with Shotzi Blackheart, The Alien Kris Statlander and Brittany Blake make their Shine Wrestling debuts!

Brandi Lauren vs. Alex Gracia

Shine 61

The Pink Dream, Alex Gracia, returns to Shine Wrestling at Shine 61! We last saw her at Shine 52 where she lost to Dynamite DiDi. Since then, she’s made a ton of debuts. She debuted for RISE Wrestling, made a few appearances in SHIMMER dark matches and toured with World Wonder Ring Stardom. Alex is also the current Reality of Wrestling Diamonds Division Champion. Brandi Lauren is your typical stuck-up girl who thinks she’s better than everyone. She’s taken down Thunderkitty, La Rosa Negra, and now Alex Gracia is her next challenge. Her hired muscle in Natalia Markova is also set for action, but she could be standing by to lend a hand.

Natalia Markova vs. Kris Statlander

As mentioned earlier, Natalia Markova will also be in action at Shine 61. The Russian brawler will be taking on the debuting Kris Statlander, the Alien among us. Statlander’s 2019 has been out of this world, holding the WSU Spirit Championship for just over six months and having a brief run with the IndepednentWrestling.TV Independent Championship. These two women have something in common though, they’ve recently lost championships. Kris lost her WSU Spirit Championship to Davienne at WSU Is It Fall Yet? After chasing Avery Taylor and the ACW Women’s Championship for months, Natalia won the title at Shine 59. Markova lost it back to Taylor just one week later.

Better Than You (Marti Belle & Jayme Jameson) vs. Lindsay Snow & Jenna
Shine 61

The team of Better Than You, Marti Belle and Jayme Jameson, just returned to competition in Shine at volume 60. They also attacked Lindsey Snow following her match. At Shine 61, they will have the team of Lindsay and Jenna standing across the ring from them. The blond powerhouses are not afraid of Marti and Jayme. The mean girl bravado doesn’t intimidate the American Kaiju and the Bionic Beast. The downfall of Better Than You may just be the underestimation of their opponents. After all, it cost them a victory and a shot at the Shine Tag Team Championships at Shine 60. Which team will reign supreme, the blondes or the brunettes?

The Cutie Pie Club (Candy Cartwright & Double D’Rose) vs. Avery Taylor & Brittany Blake

Returning to Shine are Candy Cartwright and her Cutie Pie Club. The Cutie Pie Club was defeated at Shine 57 and by the stipulation of the match, they were banned from Shine for 90 days. Candy will be stepping in a Shine ring for the first time in 10 months; her last match was at Shine 54. Double D Rose returned at Shine 60 where her match with Holidead went to a double disqualification. The Weapon of Ass Destruction has only become more dangerous since we last saw her.

We also haven’t seen Avery Taylor for a couple of months, not since Shine 59. She lost the ACW Women’s Championship to Natalia Markova but regained it at ACW Pride just a week later. Since then, she’s put down women like Lexi Gomez, Katalina Perez, and Allie Recks. Brittany Blake is making her Shine debut at La Boom. Blake has also appeared for fellow women’s promotions Women Superstars United and SHIMMER. She’s also one half of the tag team the Sinister Sweethearts with Samantha Heights.

Tina San Antonio vs. Notorious Nadi

Both of these women are returning at Shine 61! Notorious Nadi (pronounced nah-dee) we first met at Shine 59. She’s worked for promotions on both coasts of the US; CZW, Women’s Wrestling Revolution, Alternative Wrestling Show, Santino Brothers, and Future Stars of Wrestling. Tina San Antonio hasn’t been seen in Shine since volume 7 in 2013. Tina began wrestling in 2009 after training under WWE Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz. She stepped away from the squared circle in 2014 before returning for one match in 2017 and now full time in 2019. Tina is the current New York Wrestling Connection Starlet Champion and is a former WSU Tag Team Champion with Marti Belle as the Belle Saints.

Mercedes Martinez vs. Ivelisse

Shine 61

This has been building for several months now. Back in December of 2018, Mercedes Martinez confronted Shine Champion Allysin Kay for a title shot. Shine officials then announced that Kay’s next challenger would be Martinez’s partner Ivelisse instead. Martinez got her shot at the AK47 at Shine 59, as travel issues had prevented Kay from being at their originally scheduled bout at Shine 57. Mercedes was victorious over Kay but by disqualification. At Shine 60, the two former tag team partners were booked in a triple threat match with Allysin Kay. Following the win by Kay, the bad blood between Las Sicarias boiled over. The two began to fight and it took the entire Shine roster to pull them apart. At Shine 61, Mercedes and Ivelisse will have a chance to settle the score.

SHINE Tag Team Championship Match – No DQ – No Count-Out – NYC Street Fight
Rainbow Bright (Luscious Latasha & Gabby Gilbert) (c) vs. Triple Aye (Aja Perera & Big Swole) w/ Ayla

The team of Triple Aye, Aja Perera and Big Swole, led by their manager Ayla Fox have found themselves in the Shine Tag Team Championship picture. At Shine 60, they defeated the Better Than You, Marti Belle and Jayme Jameson. To prevent any shenanigans from the champions (who have used weapons and their bestie Santana in prior title matches), Shine officials also made this match a no disqualification, no count-out, New York City Street Fight! Luscious Latasha and Gabby Gilbert were less than thrilled about this development; however as they prepared for this match they showed a different side to Rainbow Bright. Perhaps the challengers are in for a bigger fight than they think.

SHINE Championship Match
Allysin Kay (c) vs. Shotzi Blackheart

Shine 61
Two of the ballsiest women in all of pro wrestling are on the Shine roster and they are also both champions. Allysin Kay, the AK47, is over 130 days in her second reign with the championship. She’s also the current reigning and defending NWA World Women’s Champion. Kay also had a very impressive showing at GCW Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 2 against SHIMMER Champion Nicole Savoy. Shotzi Blackheart is the current Shine Nova Champion, also just over 130 days into her reign. She won the title from Aja Perera at Shine 58. Shotzi and Kay have faced off once before for Kay’s Shine Championship back at EVOLVE 115. The fans of Shine are in for a real treat with this match, to see these two highly talented veterans square off.

All of this amazing action will take place on September 21st at La Boom in New York City! It is part of a double-header with EVOLVE, so bell time is scheduled for 3:00 PM Eastern Time. If you can’t make it out to enjoy the event in person, it will be available live streaming and on-demand via WWNLive.com or their ClubWWN subscription service. It will also be available on Fite.TV.
