#AndNEW: Kohei Sato Wins Big Japan World Championship

At Big Japan Wrestling Death Mania VII on Sunday, former 5x ZERO1 World Champion Kohei Sato defeated Yuji Okabayashi to become the new BJW Strong World Heavyweight Champion. The win ends Okabayashi’s second World title reign at 112-days. He had previously defeated Daisuke Sekimoto for the title this past May for the belt.

A student of 3x IWGP Heavyweight Champion and All Japan Triple Crown winner Shinya Hashimoto, Kohei Sato debuted in 2001 with Hashimoto’s Pro Wrestling ZERO1. Sato has remained a loyal soldier with ZERO1 for his entire 18-year career but has also worked freelance with BJW, WRESTLE-1, All Japan and NJPW over the course of his career. As well as being a 5x ZERO1 World Champion, he’s a 7x NWA International Tag Team Champion (defended in ZERO1), and won tag team gold in BJW as part of the Twin Towers with Shuji Ishikawa.
