#AndNEW: WALTER & Ilja Dragunov Win wXw Tag Team Championship

Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) held Shortcut to the Top on Saturday night as the promotion gets ready to head to Toronto, Ontario for SummerSlam week. But just as the tag team champions Aussie Open were set to defend their titles in Canada, they hit a spoiler in the form of “The Superstars”, featuring NXT UK Champion WALTER and another NXT UK star in Ilja Dragunov. The two wXw veterans proved to be too much for Aussie Open, and the European tandem captured the wXw World Tag Team titles.

Aussie Open, one of the most decorated tag teams in the UK indie scene the past few years, captured the wXw World Tag Team titles back in March during 16 Carat Gold, and have held the titles for 148 days. While it’s the first reign for WALTER and Ilja Dragunov together, this marks WALTER’s fourth time wearing tag team gold (previously winning with Timothy Thatcher in Ringkampf, alongside Zack Sabre Jr., and as part of the AUTsiders with “Avalanche” Robert Dreiskker) and Ilja Dragunov’s third time (he won twice with Julian Nero in Cerberus). Both WALTER and Dragunov are former wXw Unified World Wrestling Champions as well. Oddly enough, it marks the second time in a week that Aussie Open has lost titles to NXT UK stars, as they lost their PROGRESS World Tag Team titles last week to the Grizzled Young Vets.
