Preview: ICW – Shug’s Hoose Party 6: Night 2 (7/28/19)

ICW Shug's Hoose Party 6

The second night of Insane Championship Wrestling’s (ICW) Shug’s Hoose Party 6 will have to follow quite a stacked night one, which appears to be all about the big money matches – Jackie Polo vs KUSHIDA, Joe Hendry vs Leyton Buzzard, Joe Coffey vs Liam Thomson, the list goes on. Night two, however, looks to be more about the chaos, the insanity if you will. With a Last Man Standing Match, a TLC Match, a defense of the NXT UK Women’s Championship, and a new ICW World Heavyweight Champion being guaranteed by the end of the night, this could be an intense night for all at ICW!

Alexander Dean vs Ricky Knight Jr.

When you speak of wrestlers currently going through a career resurgence, you have to mention Ireland’s Alexander Dean. The Catch Provocateur has been making waves wherever he’s gone as of late, whether it’s Pro Wrestling Elite (PWE), Discovery Wrestling (DW), or his home promotion of Phoenix Wrestling. He made his return to ICW at the June Fight Club tapings after not being seen in the promotion since 2012, with his Winner Takes All Match against Lionheart turning out to be Hearto’s last. In his second match back, he comes up against rising sensation Ricky Knight Jr., member of the illustrious Knight family. RKJ has been making his mark on the British wrestling scene for a short while now, capturing both the Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE) Speed King Championship and the World Association of Wrestling (WAW) Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship, with the latter of those happening at WAW’s big Frightmare 3 show back in June. His ICW debut in April, where he faced both Leyton Buzzard and eventual winner Jody Fleisch, was an exciting contest, but things will be a little different here when he comes up against the much larger Irishman.

Prediction: Alexander Dean

Grado vs James Storm

In a rematch from Fear & Loathing XI last December, Grado once again finds himself up against James Storm. The pair’s previous match at the Hydro would see WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett acting as the special guest referee, but it soon became clear he wasn’t an impartial official as he smashed his trademark guitar over the head of The Chubby Wee Chancer. Although it looked as if that would be setting up a singles bout between Grado and Jarrett for a later date, that wouldn’t be the case as Jackie Polo instead laid down the challenge to The King of the Mountain (Jarrett has since been replaced by KUSHIDA). That left Grado without an opponent for one of ICW’s biggest weekends of the year, which is where James Storm comes back into the equation. The Bearded Outlaw has been a semi-regular member of the ICW roster since debuting at the 2018 Square Go!, with battles against the likes of Jack Jester, BT Gunn, and Jody Fleisch along the way. He’s been fairly successful thus far in his short ICW career, and he could very well be a major contender in the World Heavyweight Championship scene if he plays his cards right here.

Prediction: Grado

Ravie Davie vs The Sam Barbour Experience

With 2019 Square Go! winner RUDO Lightning out on the injured shelf, it left Ravie Davie with no match on night two of Shug’s Hoose Party. That’s why he’s offered this chance to a rising graduate out of the Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum (GPWA), the same school where Davie learned everything he knows today. He went to Mark Dallas and told him to pick anyone from the school, absolutely anyone. Who did Dallas pick? The Sam Barbour Experience. For those unaware, SBX debuted in the same year as The Fresh Prince of Drumoyne Square, but has never really received that big opportunity. He’s competed on a few ICW shows here and there, but he’s never been taken in the same regard as the likes of your Ravie Davies or your Leyton Buzzards. This could be his big break, the match that puts him on the map. All it takes is one, two, three.

Prediction: The Sam Barbour Experience

If Kinky Party lose, they must disband: The Kinky Party (Jack Jester & Sha Samuels) vs The Anti-Fun Police (Chief Deputy Dunne & Los Federales Santos Jr.)

Photo: ICW

Since January, The Anti-Fun Police have made it their mission to end The Kinky Party‘s reign of funahhh in ICW, resulting in Jack Jester and Sha Samuels losing to Dickie Divers and Jack Morris in the latter’s ICW debut. Following this, both Chief Deputy Dunne and Los Federales Santos Jr. have done all they possibly can to shut down the shenanigans being had by the fun-loving pair, but to no avail. After they, alongside HT Drake, were eliminated from the King of Hawners tournament by The Kinky Party (who were teaming with Liam Thomson), that’s when the challenge came. Anti-Fun Police vs Kinky Party at Shug’s Hoose Party 6 – if The Kinky Party lose, then they are done in Insane Championship Wrestling. It’s been quite the journey for Jack and Sha in ICW thus far. They’ve held the Tag Team Championships, they’ve wrestled in the Hydro on two separate occasions, they’ve had incredible matches with teams including The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith and Lewis Girvan) and ALPHA/EVIL (Iestyn Rees and Bram), they’ve crowd surfed on numerous occasions. What’s left for them to accomplish in an ICW ring?

Prediction: The Anti-Fun Police

Last Man Standing Match: Kez Evans vs BT Gunn

ICW Shug's Hoose Party 6

It’s been a year since Kez Evans turned his back on his mentor BT Gunn, ambushing The Oddity following his victory over current WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER. Ever since that moment, Evans and Gunn have been at each other’s throats, scratching and clawing at every opportunity to make the other’s life hell. Whether that meant tearing each other limb from limb in singles action or dumping each other out of the ring in February’s Square Go! Match, neither man has been willing to let the other move on from the rivalry. That has resulted in a Last Man Standing Match being signed in an attempt to end the hatred between them. As we all know, Last Man Standing Matches can often be quite brutal encounters, especially when they’re being put on by a promotion like ICW, and even more especially when it involves BT Gunn and Kez Evans. Expect to see two extremely battered bodies when this one’s all said and done.

Prediction: Kez Evans

Triple Threat TLC Match for the ICW Tag Team Championships: The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith & Lewis Girvan) (c) vs The Nine9 (Dickie Divers & Jack Morris) vs Jonny Storm & Jody Fleisch

Photo: ICW

A possible match of the year candidate will see three of ICW’s greatest teams slug it out, surrounded by tables, ladders, and chairs, all in the hope of pulling the Tag Team Championships down from the ceiling. The Kings of Catch pairing of ‘Lost Boy’ Aspen Faith and ‘Renegade’ Lewis Girvan have become ICW’s most beloved tandem, which became crystal clear at the Square Go! back in February as the roof blew off of the SWG3 in Glasgow as they captured the tag titles from The P.O.D (Rampage Brown and Ashton Smith). Soon thereafter, Dickie Divers and ICW newcomer Jack Morris (collectively known as The Nine9) would stick their noses into the KoC’s business, which included a sensational challenge for the tag titles back in April. It may have been an unsuccessful attempt that night, but Divers and Morris showed just how determined they truly are. With the recent addition of British wrestling legends Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm though, it now proves to be an even tougher test for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine enthusiasts.

Prediction: The Kings of Catch

NXT UK Women’s Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs Viper

ICW Shug's Hoose Party 6

If you remember back to Shug’s Hoose Party 4 in 2017, then you’ll be reminded that Pete Dunne put his WWE United Kingdom Championship up for contention in a show-stealing Fatal Four Way Match against BT Gunn, Wolfgang, and British Strong Style ally Trent Seven. Following in his footsteps is Toni Storm, who’s set to defend the NXT UK Women’s Championship against Viper on night two. Toni won the gold from Rhea Ripley back at January’s sensational NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool show, having successful defenses against names such as Jinny and Nina Samuels in the time since. When it was announced that she’d be tangling with Viper here (or Piper Niven as she’s known as to all you NXT UK fans), it didn’t take long for The Vixen of Violence to demand the match be turned into a championship affair. Toni was happy to oblige, and Viper’s wish became her command. The winner of this one will then go on to August 31st to defend against Kay Lee Ray at TakeOver: Cardiff. Either woman would make for a tantalising opponent for The Queen of Insanity, but is it possible we’ll see a huge title change in Glasgow?

Prediction: Viper

Vacant ICW World Heavyweight Championship: Wolfgang vs ???

Photo: ICW

When the news broke of Lionheart’s passing, one of the questions that came about regarded the fate of the ICW World Heavyweight Championship, with Hearto scheduled to defend the title against former champ Wolfgang in night two’s main event. At the July tapings of Fight Club, however, Mark Dallas told us the whole story. While Lionheart will remain the only undefeated World Heavyweight Champion in ICW history, the title has indeed been declared vacant, with a new champion being crowned in a match between Wolfgang and a yet to be revealed opponent. Dallas has said we won’t be finding out the identity of this opponent until they make their way through the curtain on Sunday evening, putting The Regulator at a huge disadvantage here. Several names have had their name thrown into the hat as potential challengers – from Mikey Whiplash to Stevie Boy to Mark Coffey to Alexander Dean. You could sit for hours on end putting your guesses in, and still be wrong. Only time will tell as to who it is.

Prediction: Mystery Opponent
