Preview: ROH – Mass Hysteria (7/21/19)

Mass Hysteria

Ring Of Honor wrestling is back on the road this weekend with “Mass Hysteria” taking place from the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Two championship matches and a Grudge match will be headlining the show as names like RUSH, Dalton Castle, Shane Taylor, and Villain Enterprises will all be on hand. Heres a look at what’s to come for what’s going to be an in-your-face, hard-hitting night at Ring Of Honor Wrestling.

ROH World Television Championship match: Shane Taylor (C) vs Eli Isom

A two year ROH veteran, Eli Isom has a pinfall over Shane Taylor when he rolled him up for a three count in a Four Corner Survival Match nearly a year ago. Since then, Isom has had victories over many opponents and has formed the Shinobi Shadow Squad with Cheeseburger and Ryan Nova. Sunday however will be one of his biggest challenges in his career as he faces the man he once beat in Shane Taylor. Taylor, however, has had tremendous success and has skyrocketed through the ranks of ROH and has proven to be a formidable opponent against anyone. Taylor recently won the title in a four-corners match against Jeff Cobb, Brody King, and Hiroki Goto and has since defended his Television title at “Best In The World” in what was one of the best matches of that night against Bandido.

Will Eli Isom be able to score yet another pin over Taylor and build his record to 2-0 over him while also winning the Television title? or will Shane Taylor continue his warpath to dominance and redeem his lost over Isom?

Grudge Match- RUSH vs. Dalton Castle

At the G1 Super Card of Honor we saw one of the more major upsets in ROH history when El Toro Blanco, RUSH defeated Dalton Castle in all of about 2 minutes. Since then, Castle has gone through a complete 180 degree turn in personality, eliminating his Boys and developing this obsession to get his win over RUSH, to the point that he decided it was a good idea to go after RUSH’s family and decisively beat RUSH’s younger brother, Dragon Lee in a match at Best In The World by using RUSH’s finisher to get. the 1-2-3. If there’s one thing you don’t do, is piss off the leader of Los Ingobernables worldwide and think you can get away with it. RUSH is determined to destroy Dalton Castle at Mass Hysteria this Sunday. Will RUSH have his way with Castle? Or is Castle plotting his way to victory and giving RUSH his first lost since debuting with ROH?

ROH Six-Man Championship Match- Lifeblood (Bandido, Tracy Williams & Mark Haskins) vs. Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, Brody King & PCO) (C)

Ever since all of Marty Scurlls friends left him high and dry, Marty has since developed other friendships with two of the most dominating beasts in ROH history in Brody King and a man who may literally, not be human, PCO. Since the conceptualization of Villain Enterprises, pure and utter dominance has been the key to their success with the group gaining the six-man championships over The Kingdom, led by the current ROH World Heavyweight Champion, Matt Taven. But with dominance, comes competition, and Lifeblood is just that in the form of “Hotsauce” Tracy Williams, Bandido and Mark Haskins. Things have quickly gotten personal when Lifeblood tried recruiting Flip Gordon to the group, only to be double-crossed by Flip when he joined Villain Enterprises at “Best In The World” and nearly taking Tracy Williams out of action with a 450 Splash from the top rope with Williams on a tape. There’s no telling what will happen this Sunday when both teams get their hands on each other. Will Lifeblood be able to get their revenge and win the battle while winning the titles in what is sure to be a never-ending war? or will Villian Enterprises retain their six-man championships? Will Flip Gordon be on hand to observe the melee and get involved?

PJ Black vs. Silas Young

Silas Young and PJ Black will meet for the first time in their careers as both men are looking for gold. Both men are coming off of losses and have something to prove. Silas Young as you’ll recall came off of a controversial loss against Jonathan Gresham in a Pure Rules Match in what was instant karma for The Last Real Man. PJ Black is coming off a loss when he, Tracy Williams and Mark Haskins lost a Six-Man tag championship match against Villain Enterprises. Both men are looking to put up a very competitive match to get back to their winning ways. Who will come out on top during their first encounter?

Alex Shelley, Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan)

By Mass Hysteria, we will know who will be the ROH World Heavyweight Champion as both Jay Lethal and Matt Taven will square off the night before at Manhattan Mayhem for the world title. The main story here is Alex Shelley who will be facing the winner of that match at “Summer Supercard Of Honor”. Alex Shelley returned to Ring Of Honor during their latest Television tapings which will be airing soon. During his return, Shelley pulled his “veteran card” and challenged the winner of that match. How will Alex Shelley and Jay Lethal co-exist on one side as a team if Jay Lethal is the champion? Will Taven remain champ, however, the night before? This should be an interesting story to keep an eye out for. Stay tuned!

Kenny King vs. Dragon Lee

Photo: ROH

The K.I.N.G. King has been on fire in 2019! Things picked up for King when he was able to eliminate to bonafide legends of the sport in The Great Muta and Jushin “Thunder” Liger at the G1 Supercard of Honor at Madison Square Garden. There was a small hiccup involved when The Great Muta spits his patented mist into Kings eyes blinding him for months. King would eventually make his comeback and would quickly challenge Jay Lethal in a 2 out of 3 falls match at “Best In The World” that would have King beat Lethal with his maneuver, The Lethal Injection. King is on a major high and is deserving of a title match soon.

The international sensation, Dragon Lee since his return to Ring Of Honor hasn’t come off to the best start after losing his match to Dalton Castle at Best In The World. Lee looks to earn a victory over one of the hottest ROH talents this weekend at Mass Hysteria. Dragon Lee has had an unbelievable year, coming off a great performance at NJPW’s Best Of The Super Juniors as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and shortly after that coming off a tremendous one-on-one match against Barbarbo Cavernario in a 2 out of 3 falls singles match a couple of weeks back at Arena Mexico. Lee, who is a great talent can quickly turn things around while in ROH no doubt about it. Will Lee be able to get the “W” over Kenny King this Sunday? or will Kenny King continue his winning ways and eventually look for a title shot?
