EXCLUSIVE: Update on Super Smash Bros and AEW

It was heavily implicated in a past edition of the Young BucksBeing The Elite web series and became a reality at All Elite Wrestling (AEW)‘s Double or Nothing last Saturday, but now we all know, Canadian tag team Super Smash Bros, Evil UNO and Stu Grayson, are now #AllElite.

Update on Super Smash Bros and AEW

While for decades the tandem has been a force on the international indies – from their reign as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) World Tag Team Champions to working with Smash Wrestling in Canada, fighting the Bucks on Ring of Honor events in Canada and more – their appearance at Double or Nothing, where they took out both the Best Friends of Chuck Taylor and Trent Baretta and the also friends, Angelico & Jack Evans, has shown that the Super Smash Bros. is a force to be reckoned with in the AEW tag team division. But why were they not called Super Smash Bros? Sources close to the situation have cleared up the matter, and provided further details.

The reason they weren’t introduced as Super Smash Bros. was similar to why War Machine debuted as War Raiders in NXT. Being on a major platform like TNT, Super Smash Bros. would suddenly become trademark sensitive to Nintendo the way that War Machine would to Marvel Comics (War Machine is trademarked by Marvel for James Rhodes’ character in Iron Man). The duo could have gone simply by SSB, as they’re also known, but they decided to rebrand completely instead. Their new AEW name should be revealed soon.

Like many of the AEW signees, once AEW goes weekly on TNT for AEW television, they will become exclusive in the US for AEW. In Canada, they can still work their normal Canadian indies such as Smash Wrestling, Ottawa’s Capital City Championship Combat (C4), and Quebec’s International Wrestling Syndicate (IWS), BATTLEWAR, Federation de Lutte Quebecoise (FLQ) and others.

The name for their new incarnation is still being worked on, but fear not. One of Young Buck’s greatest rivals is indeed heading to AEW and will be the same fearsome force they’ve always been.
