SmackDown Competitors for MITB Announced, Matches Set

On Monday’s episode of Raw, the four entrants in both the men’s and women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match were revealed for May 19’s Money in the Bank PPV in Hartford, Connecticut, and on Tuesday, SmackDown Live revealed their eight participants to round out the two MITB Ladder Matches for this year’s event.

The Women

Surprisingly, Bayley is entering her first MITB Ladder match, having failed twice last year to qualify for the 2018 edition (she was ineligible for the inaugural 2017 Women’s MITB match as it was a SmackDown exclusive PPV and she was a part of Raw at the time).

Carmella

The winner of the inaugural MITB briefcase for women in 2017, she actually won it twice, winning the “do-over” two weeks later again after her first win was considered void due to interference from then-associate James Ellsworth. Carmella would hold the MITB briefcase a record 287-days before cashing it in on then-SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair (beating Edge‘s previous record of 280-days), who had been beaten down by the debuting Iiconics in April of 2018.

Ember Moon made her MITB debut last year in the 2018 edition that saw Alexa Bliss emerge triumphantly, but with a renewed fire, could this be The War Goddess’ time to shine?

Mandy Rose

Mandy Rose enters her first MITB Ladder Match after failing to qualify last year. Shane McMahon told the duo of Rose and Sonya Deville to decide which one would represent them in the MITB match, and Deville graciously handed the spot to Rose unchallenged.

The Men

Ali

The former 205 Live standout continues a monstrous run on SmackDown by entering his first MITB ladder match.

The former NXT Champion was just debuting on SmackDown this time last year and didn’t get a shot at last year’s MITB, but with a renewed push, he’s a potential dark horse to win it all this year.

Finn Balor

The reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion is entering his second MITB ladder match, after competing in his first one last year.

Randy Orton

Randy Orton will be competing in his fifth MITB Ladder Match, with his first foray being at WrestleMania 23 in Detroit, Michigan in 2007. He was in the Raw MITB Ladder Match at the inaugural 2010 Money in the Bank PPV, and in 2013, he won that year’s briefcase. He cashed in at that year’s SummerSlam, turning heel in the process, when he cashed in on new WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, and rejoining former Evolution mentor Triple H in his new Authority. His fourth and last appearance in a MITB Ladder Match was in 2015.
