Lacey Evans: A Closer Look At Raw’s New Villainess

For months, Lacey Evans has been the next incarnation of Emmalina. An NXT addition to both Raw and SmackDown Live, she as announced as being headed to one of the brands in December of last year, and instead of debuting in the ring, she’ spent five months interrupting matches, moments and interview with what was little more than a fashion parade. But on this past Monday’s Raw, she finally got physical, ending her runway catwalk with a punch right to Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.

Lacey Evans began her adult life as a full serving member of the US Marines starting in 2009, serving for five years as part of the Special Reaction Team (the Marines’ SWAT Team). During her tenure as a US Marine, she was first exposed to pro wrestling, where she joined one of her Marine cohorts’ promotion on the side. In 2014 she joined the American Premier Wrestling school, debuting with the promotion shortly after as Macey Estrella.

In April of 2016, she signed with WWE to a developmental deal, renamed to Lacey Evans and going to work in NXT. By October, she was working the NXT Live Events, making her NXT TV debut in January of 2017, in a tag match with Sarah Logan (then Sarah Bridges) in a losing effort against The IiconicsBillie Kay and Peyton Royce.

That summer, she debuted in the first Mae Young Classic, and although she was used sporadically in NXT, her TV time expanded following the Mae Young Classic, where she became one of the heels in the NXT Women’s Division, facing the likes of Bianca BelAir, Nikki Cross, Dakota Kai, and Kairi Sane before being called up in late December.

While she hasn’t been seen in action yet on Raw or SmackDown Live yet, she’s been working live events in 2019 as a frequent tag partner of former Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss. Whether she ends up aligned with Bliss or not is yet to be revealed, but she’s at least finally made some kind of physical statement. And by attacking Becky Lynch at the Raw After Mania, it would appear Lacey Evans is in for a big push out of the gate.
