#WrestleManiaWeek Preview – IWS: Unstoppable (4/6/19)

International Wrestling Syndicate (IWS) is one of Canada’s longest running active promotions, opening its doors in 1999. Founded by a trio of veteran Quebec indie wrestlers PCP Crazy Manny and Sexxxy Eddy, alongside promoter Nixon Stratus, IWS has been a staple stop for many international wrestlers going through Canada. On Saturday April 6, they’re holding IWS Unstoppable,  as part of Game Changer Wrestling‘s The Collective. Like all Collective slots, they’ll be appearing at the White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, New Jersey. It will be airing live on IndependentWrestling.tv

J-Money vs Alexander Dean

Irish wrestlers Alexander Dean and J-Money get the chance to prove themselves on Mania weekend.  The “Reptilian Overlord” Dean has been wrestling since 2005 and considers himself a catch provocateur, very similar to the ethos of The Revival he doesn’t believe he needs flips to win a match.  Dean’s grit is the perfect compliment to a personality like J-Money.  There has never been an Irish wrestler as immediately charismatic as J-Money, he made his debut in late 2017 and instantly became a fan favorite with his Rainmaker-esque gimmick where he makes it rain J Money dollar bills.  Money is a Fight Factory Pro Wrestling trainee, the school that produced Jordan Devlin and many other Irish stars, so he is more than capable in the ring but his strength is in his character.  Money owns any room he walks into and can do both serious and comedic wrestling very well.  These two know each other very well and compliment one another in the ring so you can guarantee they will make the most of this opportunity.

Maxim Lemire vs. Sheldon Jean vs. Pinkie Sanchez vs. Black Dynamite

Maxim Lemire is a 21-year veteran of the French-Canadian indies, working regularly with Federation Canadienne de Lutte (FCL) and IWS. He’s also the reigning Great North Wrestling (GNW) Champion in Northern Ontario. Sheldon Jean is from Ottawa, but he trained under Scott D’Amore at the Can-Am Wrestling School. He’s a regular with IWS and Ottawa’s Capital City Championship Combat (C4) and has been slowly entering the US indie scene of late with All American Wrestling (AAW) and Glory ProPinkie Sanchez is a New Jersey/NYC indie veteran of 15 years, best known for his work with CHIKARA, Beyond Wrestling, GCW and CZW. Black Dynamite is another Quebec veteran of 14 years, who is a former IWS World Heavyweight Champion. All kinds of styles in this fatal four-way.

IWS Hardcore Championship: Kevin Blancard (c) vs. Ophidian

Kevin Blanchard is one of the many Canadian talents coming to New Jersey for the IWS showcase event, an 11-year pro from Quebec who debuted with IWS in 2016. He also competes for Montreal’s BATTLEWARFederation de Lutte Quebecoise (FLQ) and La Descente Du Coude (LDDC), where’s one half of the LDDC Tag Team Champions Gabbo Gang, with Urban Miles. He’s facing an absolute legend from CHIKARA in the snake charmer himself, Ophidian. One of the most underrated cruiserweights of the past two decades, Ophidian is a marvel in the ring.

Benjamin Tull vs. Rory Gulak

Photo: IWS

Benjamin Tull (also known as Jay Phenomenon) is a 17-year veteran of the Quebec indies, and longtime regular with Northern Championship Wrestling (nCw). A 6x nCw Tag Team Champion, 2x nCw Television Champion, 2x nCw Inner Cities Champion and nCw Quebec Champion, he debuted with IWS in 2015. He takes on one of the US indies most technically proficient grapplers in Rory Gulak. The younger brother of WWE Superstar Drew Gulak, Rory has been a stud with Beyond Wrestling, CHIKARA, Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and many more over his 11-year career in the ring.

AlcoBrawl: Sexxxy Eddy vs. Arik Cannon

Photo: IWS

Montreal’s Sexxxy Eddy is Quebec wrestling royalty and a 21-year veteran of the business. Very early in his career, he co-founded IWS and has been a staple on the Quebec indies ever since, as a 4x IWS World Heavyweight Champion. He also had a five year run with CZW in the mid-2000s, where he teamed with LuFisto in the Missionaries of Violence. He faces another longtime veteran in Chicago’s Arik Cannon, an 18-year pro himself with the likes of All American Wrestling (AAW), Freelance Wrestling, CHIKARA, Dragon Gate USA, IWA Mid South and much more. He now resides in Minnesota, where he runs F1RST Wrestling. This should be an absolute clinic.

Triple Threat for the Vacant IWS Women’s Championship: Addy Starr vs. Solo Darling vs. Veda Scott

Photo: IWS

IWS recently stripped their Women’s Champion Stacy Thibault of her title due to lack of title defenses, and on Saturday they’ll be crowning a new champion with three solid competitors going for the gold. Addy Starr is a Canadian scrapper that has been taking the UK by storm of late with Pro Wrestling EVE. She’s also a hardcore LEGO enthusiast who is tougher than most men in the business. She’s facing off against one of CHIKARA’s top stars in Solo Darling, who has also been a strong presence of late with Beyond Wrestling, Bar Wrestling, SHIMMER, and with Sendai Girls in Japan last year. Former Ring of Honor star Veda Scott has been working Europe and Japan a lot the past year, with DDT Pro, Tokyo Joshi Pro, Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw), Ireland’s Over The Top (OTT) Wrestling, and the UK’s Revolution Pro (RevPro), ATTACK! and Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE), but still finds time to return to North America for the likes of IWS, Smash Wrestling, and Queens of Combat.

Matt Tremont vs. Nick Gage vs. The Green Phantom

Photo: IWS

IWS’ “Hardcore Hero” The Green Phantom is a 19-year veteran with IWS and a 3x IWS World Heavyweight Champion. The Canadian hardcore legend is putting his skills to the test by facing two of the absolute kings of American hardcore. “Bulldozer” Matt Tremont is a former CZW World Heavyweight Champion and Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) World Champion, while Nick Gage is one of the biggest American hardcore icons of all time. A 4x CZW World Champion and the reigning GCW World Champion, Gage is a death machine. This will be one of the most violent matches of the entire week.
