#AndNEW: Dragon Lee Wins CMLL World Welterweight Championship

This past Tuesday night at Arena Mexico, one of the world’s true iconic cathedrals for professional wrestling, Dragon Lee defeated Mephisto to become the new CMLL World Welterweight Champion, ending Mephisto’s three-year reign in the division at 1,050 days.

The win is a huge accomplishment for Dragon Lee, the younger brother of Los Ingobernables leader Rush, who has emerged as a strong contender for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship with New Japan this year. He’s currently scheduled to face current champion Taiji Ishimori and Bandido in a triple threat match for the title at the Madison Square Garden G1 Supercard over WrestleMania Weekend, in the huge supershow from NJPW and Ring of Honor. One of CMLL’s top young stars, he was briefly working with Major League Wrestling (MLW) last year before the company opted to stop working with CMLL stars due to their alliance with ROH (that cost them several Rush bookings). Dragon Lee is expected to join his brother Rush in ROH in the US sometime this year.

You can catch the full match below from the official CMLL YouTube channel. It should be set up to start at the beginning of the match, but if not, just forward to about the 1 hour, 50 minute mark.
