PREVIEW: World Series Wrestling (WSW) – Defend & Destroy Melbourne Night 2 (3/9/19)

This weekend a swath of international wrestling stars descend upon Australia to mix it up with the best our country has to offer. One of the major highlights of this World Series Wrestling (WSW) will be the crowning of the first ever WSW Women’s Champion through a tournament format.

Melbourne gets a second night of action from WSW on Saturday.

The villainous WSW Tag Team Champions will defend their championships against the veteran team of SoCal Uncensored during the second night in Melbourne.

Two of the world’s best tag team champions are likely to put on a tag team wrestling clinic in this encounter. With this being a matchup which sees Ring Of Honor (ROH) versus All Elite Wrestling (AEW) fans in Melbourne may be the only people in the world who will see this match.

Indi Hartwell vs Jordynne Grace

In her short career, Indi Hartwell has more than earned her ‘Impressive’ moniker. This weekend she will look to once again prove that she truly is one of the best in the world when she takes on IMPACT Wrestling’s Jordynne Grace.

Grace will likely be the most powerful competitor Hartwell has come across in her career so this will be an interesting challenge for the youngster.

Joey Ryan vs Gino Gambino

In a recent video released on his social media page,s Gino Gambino said he was once the joker on wrestling shows, much like Joey Ryan, but has since developed into the king of Melbourne wrestling. Will Ryan take offense to this statement and look to prove that the joker is just as dangerous as any other man?

Also worth mentioning is Gambino threats towards All Elite Wrestling Executive Vice President Cody, a man who has been making surprise appearances around the United States to save Joey Ryan. Will Cody answer the call this Saturday in Melbourne?

WSW Women’s Championship Tournament Semi-Final: Shazza McKenzie vs Erika Reid

In the last of the semi-final matchup, two Australian veterans face off for what will be the last remaining spot in the final, which is to be contested in Sydney.

Shazza McKenzie has been battling it out with the men recently in her hometown of Sydney as she looks to prove she is not only one of the countries best female wrestlers but rather best wrestlers regardless of gender. What better way to stake her claim on the women’s division though than to capture the inaugural WSW Women’s Championship.

Erika Reid, on the other hand, is someone who is unafraid of enduring massive amounts of pain to claim victory. Will McKenzie be able to deal out enough pain to keep the ‘Dreamtime Witch’ down and out?

Bandido & Flamita vs Dowie James & Adam Brooks

Prepare for a match competed at 1000mph as these two teams square off.

Dowie James & Adam Brooks, known as the Loose & The Wreckless, will not only look to keep up with the luchadors but will also likely attempt to even outdo their high-flying antics.

Anybody sitting in the front row for this one better stay on high alert for flying bodies!

Brian Cage vs Scorpio Sky

Melbourne fans are also going to be treated to yet another potential one time only matchup as IMPACT Wrestling’s Brian Cage battles All Elite Wrestling’s Scorpio Sky.

The Swoleverine will be looking to pick up a dominant win here as he prepares for his imminent WSW World Championship matchup in Sydney. As such Scorpio Sky will be looking to use his veteran mind to capitalize on a man whose mind isn’t fully focused on the present.

WSW World Title: Robbie Eagles (c) vs Flip Gordon

Last year saw both of these men making their New Japan Pro Wrestling debuts. Flip Gordon as part of the Best Of The Super Juniors tournament and Eagles as part of the Super Junior Tag League. Both men certainly left their marks in those tournaments and have since got on to become even bigger stars globally.

A matchup between the two men is something which many fans have been clamoring for quite some time. This weekend Melbourne is lucky enough to be granted this first time ever encounter.

Gordon and Eagles are both incredible high-flyers so this will be a very exciting match. Eagles, however, has also been fleshing out his submission game over the last year or so, which may be the deciding factor.

AEW Gets Modern Masculinity

When it comes to AEW and their presentation of men and male relationships in storylines and characters, I don’t think the company gets enough credit. Sports generally
